The Central England / Cotswolds / Oxfordshire region

Oxford - Dreaming spires, England's oldest university, the stunning architecture on Broad Street and the High Street, the covered market and the colleges.
The Cotswolds stretch from Stratford upon Avon in the north to Bath in the south. From Gloucester in the west to Oxford in the east, the rolling hills are full of story book English villages. Then you can add Shakespeare at Stratford upon Avon, the dreaming spires and colleges at Oxford and the Georgian city of Bath. There is something different to do every day.
Woodstock - Famous for Blenheim Palace and Winston Churchill's grave, the village itself also has a lot of charm.
Stratford upon Avon - The birthplace of William Shakespeare and the home of the Shakespeare Theatre.
Chipping Campden - Perhaps the nicest of the Cotswold villages, as it is relatively unspoiled by the weight of modern tourism.
Stow on the World - A busy small town, with a charming square and a range of shops.
The Slaughters - The Cotswolds encapsulated, Upper and Lower Slaughter, with their manor houses and honey stone cottages.
Burford - The town has a steep main street, with lots of antique shops, which runs down to the river and the ancient bridge.
Cirencester - The town has evolved from a Roman garrison town to a charming, well preserved market town.
Bath - The Roman spa and the Georgian houses are the blend that attract tourists from all over the world.

Local Area:
Oxford University, founded in 1214, is the oldest and best university in Britain. Over 30 individual colleges make up the university, and each has become affiliated to the central university at different points in time from the 13th century up to today. There is no "campus" as such, but you will find a cluster of very beautiful historic buildings that are used by all the colleges - the Bodleian Library, the Radcliffe Camera, the Sheldonain Theatre, the Ashmolean Museum in the centre of Oxford. The individual colleges are scattered around the centre as well. Each college is protected by a high wall, which is entered through the porters lodge at the main gate. Once inside a veritable Pandora's Box opens up with courtyards and grass quadrangles, old buildings, the college chapel, its library, the students rooms. The only way to see what a college is like is to go inside a few.
There are walking tours of the colleges, and the open top buses go on a continual loop round the city (with your ticket you can get on and off at will) Go on one complete loop to get your bearings, then go round again getting on and off at those places and colleges that took your fancy.
The River is an important part of university life, particularly in the summer term. You get to the river by walking through Christ Church Meadow. The Oxford University Boat Race crew train here in the winter, in the summer, the less serious and more spectacular Summer Eights take place.
On the River Cherwell, which joins the Thames at the boat houses, you can rent a punt and try your hand at poling up the picturesque narrow river, perhaps reaching a pub for a little refreshment!

This area lies to the east and is fast becoming one of the trendiest places. Apartments, bars and restaurants are being developed amongst the traditional properties. It still is very accessible to the city centre by foot, across the University Parks, or by frequent bus service. Convenient location for most of the hospitals, colleges and university libraries and for Oxford Brookes University.

First of all, we experienced no problems with check-in. We were able to get a friend to pick up the keys before our arrival. The flat was rather tiny, we thought, for the price (comparing with our experiences in London). The biggest problem was that there was no hot water at the flat. We contacted the manager, David, and he promised there would be a plumber out the next day to look at it. The next day he said they had needed a part, and it was a bank holiday, so it would not be fixed until the next day. On our third day there, the owner came with a plumber (who had obviously not been there the day before), and I was told that it would cost too much to fix. He suggested we transfer to the apartment next door, and said we would get a refund for the inconvenience. We transferred next door, but the water situation was only marginally better. The hot water there seemed to be on-again, off-again. My wife was able to have a warm shower, but I had to have a fairly cold shower the day after. After my wife had her shower, there was not enough hot water to wash dishes. We sent emails to the manager to tell him of the situation and left a note on the day we left explaining the circumstances. We had no reply. I have sent emails inquiring about the aforementioned refund, and have had one reply, indicating he would get back to us. Silence since then. I realize that one may never know when a boiler is going to give up, but I would have expected a little more interest about our situation, and would like to hear from them regarding the refund. |

Great--just as advertised, and perfect location.

We spent a week visiting our daughter, who is going to school for the year at Oxford. We wanted a place with a kitchen so that we could cook her some meals, but didn't need much space since we would be out and about most days. The apartment was very clean, well stocked, and everything worked. We had a wonderful week, and I would highly recommend The Belles to anyone looking for a centrally located flat.

Everything I needed was available at The Belles. Great location in walking distance from everything you could possibly need. The apartment was well appointed and comfortable. The service was also great, with personal check in and great online support before I arrive. Thank you

Everything and everybody were absolutely amazing: the apartment clean and with everything necessary provided, its location, David who gave us the keys and Simon who helped to book the flat and who I had all my e-mails exchange with. The whole team was very helpful. Thank you! Will be happy to stay at their apartment again when we are in Oxford.

"The Belles are well situated, with nearby bus services to and from London and the major airports. A number of small convenience stores together with a choice of restaurants and pubs are literally just round the corner.
From my perspective, the quiet, clean, bright and well equipped accommodation was ideally situated on the cusp of academia and reality, (a super market and multiculturalism). Both, including walks along the Isis were a short but an interesting walk away from the Belles.
I'd stay there again."

"I stayed at the Belles for one week and loved it. It was minutes from central Oxford, close to shopping and restaurants. The apartment was very nicely decorated, and had everything needed for cooking, cleaning, etc. The wireless internet was easy to use and I had no problems. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom pleasant. Much better than a hotel."

"A nice location as it is so close to the city and makes going out so easy especially since Oxford is not very car friendly."
"We really enjoyed our stay there. The flat is very well maintained and adequately equipped and furnished. It is ideally located, at 15 minutes walk from Carfax, and very next to the bus stops to London, Heathrow and Gatwick. It is certainly one of the best value in the category of short terms rentals in Oxford. We unhesitatingly recommend it."
