Surrounded by 30 acres of private land in the Alentejo countryside, this villa is the ideal location for a relaxed and peaceful holiday. You are guaranteed privacy and tranquillity in this well appointed villa with a 10 x 4 metre salt water pool. Set on a hill top, the house enjoys stunning panoramic views, spectacular skies at night and a cooling breeze on hot days.

The house is just over an hour's drive to the wonderful west coast and its undeveloped beaches and just under an hour to the Algarve in the south. Faro airport is a 75 minute drive and Lisbon is just over 2 hours away. If you prefer a more leisurely journey, the Algarve and Lisbon can be reached by train from the station 7 miles away.

There are over 1000 trees on the property making it a great place for bird watching. At different times of the year you can spot bee- eaters, eagles, hoopoes, bush turkeys, swallows, martins, storks and rollers. If you are lucky you might come across wild boar, hares and even the Iberian wild cat.

The nearest town is Ourique, a ten minute drive away. There are a variety of cafes, restaurants and shops, including a supermarket which specialises in stocking local meat, vegetables, fruit and cheese. Ourique is a small, traditional town with little night life, very different to the busy Algarve. The rural location means a car is essential to holiday here, even though you may only end up using it to go to Ourique and back!

The Alentejo region has something to please everyone. Ourique is just 90 minutes from Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage site which boasts a Roman Temple where junior army officers met to plan the 1975 revolution. There are wonderful surf beaches on the west coast to thrill the more adventurous and children delight in the rock pools and golden sands. The beautiful rural landscape is perfect for walkers and off road cyclists. Each village has it's own character, bars are friendly and people are welcoming.

The house was built in 2005 and is fully accessible. The main bedroom has a large wet floor ensuite shower room, a shower wheelchair can be provided and there is a hydraulic hoist for access to the swimming pool. The house is comfortably furnished and offers a selection of books and games. The shaded terrace looks out over the swimming pool and the lovely countryside beyond, perfect for relaxing meals and cool drinks.

The Alentejo region

From Evora to the north, Mertola to the east and the wild beaches on the west coast the Alentejo has a wealth of beautiful and fascinating places to visit. The region enjoys about 300 days of sun a year. Hot summer days are conducive to relaxing on the terrace and lazing in the pool. Wild flowers carpet the fields in spring and storks nest on telegraph poles. Winter days can be cold and frosty but often sunny. Nearby villages welcome visitors to share their fetes and larger towns hold medieval fairs complete with jousting and carnival parades. Visit a vineyard to try the excellent Alentejo wines and sample local delicacies.
