Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 5
A lovely renovated cottage, originally a wooden house, set in the beautifull scenery of the Lower Alentejo, Portugal. The area is reknowned for cork oaks, black pigs and a very traditional rural way of life. It is an idyllic place to spend a peacefull and relaxing holiday.
The cottage has two twin rooms, both ensuite showers with a comfortable sitting room and galley kitchen. It stands in it's own enclosed grounds of 6000m2 with a private water supply and solar hot water system.
A great centre for families or for friends especially if you want to do some horse riding too.

The Alentejo region
The Baixo Alentejo area of Portugal is part of the farming community and varies in its countryside as you move through it. The part that we are in is only just north of the Algarve and has rolling hillside with views of bigger western and southern hills in the distance.
Great wine is produced in the area and it is possible to take tours of some of the wineries. The other main farming is of wheat for bread production and hay as feed for the animals. Beef, black pigs, sheep and goats are all farmed locally and are free range.
The other main industry of the area is the breeding of the Lusitano horses, so famous throughout Portugal and the world for their noble character, comfortable riding and wonderful temperaments.
The weather is seasonal and relatively warm (hot in the summer) and during the spring there is the most amazing display of wild flowers to be seen and smelt.
Quince Cottage (Courela dos marmeleiros) is set in the countryside with fabulous views all around and miles of tracks for guests to explore on horseback or by bicycle.
We are a very short distance from the archaeological site of Castro da Cola and this is on the Rio Mira at the beginning of Santa Clara lake. So there is plenty for everyone to do and see. Being the Baixo Alentejo area it is just a 40 minute drive down to the Algarve coast and 50 minutes to the west coast.
The local town of Ourique has all the necessary amenities to make your stay comfortable and the shopping easy. The best restaurants in the area are only 2 kms away and both accessible without going on the main road if need be!
