Victorines
About the home
We bought the house as an escape and as a home from home - which after much effort it now truly is The house is perfectly situated close to airports and is surrounded by lots of amazing restaurants. We would be more than willing to share our favourites with you. The wine is superb and reasonable. Our English speaking friends and staff locally will attend to your every needs. Poolside takes some beating - the outside kitchen has two fridge freezers and a gas barbeque with grill and hotplate as well as 12 seater table An awning offers ample shade whilst the pool area is a real suntrap The countryside is perfect for long walks and jogging. We have a number of near by lakes and fresh water swimming rivers. The canal du midi is another fantastic place to spend some time.
Unique benefits of the property
Our house is robust and homely and we have decided to let it as we feel it a waste that such a place should sit empty whilst we are not there You just don't get houses like this in the UK We have stayed in many places over the years but ours is a true home - right down to the 1967 vintage Lambretta and Piano in the hall and the satellite English TV and the xtrainer or concept2 rowing machine for those missing the gym
The cast iron triple locking pool safety fencing ensures a worry free stay Is there a better 'large group' party/family let ??

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region
This part of the Languedoc has a sunny Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.
The Oupia area
The ancient, pretty, hillside village of Oupia (pronounced Oop-Yah) has just a couple of hundred inhabitants. You can walk down the narrow, windy streets to the small grocery store which sells bread, the post office, 'Le Regalade' restaurant, and the 12th century chateau producing a great selection of wines.
Just a couple of minutes away by car, or 10-minutes by bike, is the town of Olonzac which has a wider range of shops, restaurants and cafe-bars. The area has an abundance of vineyards where the various chateaux and domaines offer 'degustations' - wine-tastings.
Sports Facilites: Watersports lovers will find sailing, diving, wind-surfing, water-ski-ing etc at the Mediterranean coastal resorts about 45 minutes drive away, or more locally at Lac du Jouarres near Homps. Locally cycling and walking are fantastic things to do - just to enjoy the lovely views. Cycles can be hired locally and delivered to your door (please ask Joie de Vivre for details).
Oupia has a village boulodrome where you can play boules in the evening sunshine; and tennis courts are available in the park in Olonzac.
Sight-seeing Days Out: There is much to see and do in this lovely region - but a visit would not be complete without a trip to the medieval city of Carcassonne, a boat trip on the Canal du Midi, a walk around and perhaps lunch at the historic town of Minerve, a day out in the lively city of Narbonne with its fantastic indoor food market and even a day trip to Spain (the border is only about 90-minutes drive away). We will send you a full information when you book.
Markets: In this region they are colourful and interesting and full of fresh, seasonal produce. Olonzac has weekly market on a Tuesday morning - and Narbonne on a Thursday and a Sunday. Narbonne also has a fabulous daily indoor food market in Les Halles - open until about 1.00pm every day.
Restaurants: As well as the restaurant in the village, there's a good restaurant in the neighboroughing village of Beaufort within walking distance for the more active, if you don't want to take the car. Olonzac has further restaurants, as does Minerve, Azillanet, and Aigne. Further afield there's a wide selection to suit all budgets and tastes in other surounding villages and in Carcassonne and Narbonne. We will be pleased to recommend some of them to you.
Supermarkets: The nearest is in Olonzac - 2 kms and there's another in Homps - 5kms, and in La Redorte - 10 kms.

On arrival in Oupia we made our way through the winding roads of the villiage and was bowled over by the tranquility of the athmosphere. We began to unwind and relax almost immediatly after the short drive along the motorway, from the airport. The pool area is the perfect poolside sunbathing area and very safe for children to enjoy. The house has a very welcoming feel to it and very well equiped with a beautiful open fireplace. Oupia is the perfect base for a wonderful holiday is this historic area of France. And of course the wine is a must. Would we go back? You bet. |

We visited Victorines in October 2011. Our first impression of the house when we arrived was truly amazing. It really is a home from home. The house can accommodate large family groups but also the house is cosy for a small group like ours. The owner gave us a really good deal as we were a small group. Myself and my partner and my mum and dad really enjoyed the facilities that the house had to offer. I take my hat off to the owners, they really have thought of everything. Firstly the outdoor space and the swimming pool area is great for lazy days by the pool and we were extremely lucky with the weather. The poolside kitchen has everything you need from cutlery to pool furniture and loads of stuff for the kids to play with. The pool area is also safe for small children too. The information book provided at the house has loads of details about the local area and also places to visit. Have a read, well worth it. We visited many places suggested and all were definitely worthwhile. Our favourite pastime was sitting outside a local bar in Olonzac sampling the local wine and watching the world go by. Market day is great, fab chicken and chips! We visited the beach, as its not that far by car, Homps which is a beautiful place by the canal. The walled city at Carcassonne was impressive and is well worth a visit also. We had a great time and we loved the house and pool and garden areas. We will be back! |

Victorines is simply stunning, situated in the beautiful French village of Oupia. We travelled with parents and our young children and enjoyed an idyllic holiday. The house itself is stunning with many bedrooms and space to eat or relax as a family. Tthe pool area is perfect for all ages with an outside kitchen which means you really can relax by the pool all day long. You can even watch movies under the stars in the outside lounge whilst sipping wine from the local vineyards. Oupia itself is a charming unspoilt village and is both quiet and safe for all ages. There are plenty of places to visit nearby whether you fancy a short drive to the coast, a visit to a historic site or a vibrant town. All in all a 5 star holiday with nothing left out, we will definitely go back to Victorines |
