Home description
The cottage is a pretty red bricked, Victorian stable building which have been updated over a number of years. Located within the gardens of the main house the stable has it’s own driveway and sheltered courtyard. Stable doors lead into the cottage and the large well equipped kitchen breakfast room. The sitting room is bright and comfy and we have a downstairs cloakroom with shower. The stairs wind up to two very pretty bedrooms and bathroom. Both bedrooms have lovely views over East Devon. Whilst the cottage is completely self contained, guests are welcome to use the main gardens for walking, picnics or croquet. This cottage is ideally suited for people looking for peace and tranquility, wishing to get away from it all, yet is ideally located for people looking to explore East Devon by car or those wishing to enjoy peaceful walks. Shopping and restaurants in Honiton and Exeter. Beaches at Sidmouth, Exmouth and Branscombe. Fishing at Beer and Lyme Regis. Golf and pampering at Woodbury Country Club.

The West Country / Devon region
We are eleven miles from Exeter with it's beautiful Cathedral and wonderful shops and restaurants. The dramatic Jurassic Coast which is Englands first Natural World Heritage Site is only six miles away. The South West Coast Path can be joined at Sidmouth, a gracious Georgian town. With breathtaking scenery and majestic cliffs East Devon is quite wonderful all year round.
Ottery St Mary / East Hill area
Ottery St Mary is one of the most historic towns in Devon, nestling in the beautiful Otter Valley. East Hill flanks Ottery and we can be found in Holcombe Lane a quiet and peaceful no-through lane inhabited only by farming families. The jewel in Ottery's crown is our wonderful Parish Church, voted amongst the 20 finest in England. The Poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born in Ottery and the Ottery Heritage Museum which is open from May to September features many aspects of the Poets life and work. Ottery is wonderful to visit at any time of the year, we have Pixie day in June and of course the World famous Tar Barrel Rolling event on Bonfire Night in November. We are ideally based to explore the local historic houses of Cadhay, Escot and Bicton with their own gardens, mazes and walks.
How to get there
Ours is a lovely rural location just over 2 km from the nearest town of Ottery St Mary. There is a bus service, but this is very limited and quite slow. We recommend that you have your own transport and can advise you on local hire companies if necessary. However, if you do need help we can arrange a taxi or possibly collect you ourselves. Trains from Honiton over good local coverage with a stopping service through to London or westerly through Devon into Cornwall. This links to the high speed intercity service at Exeter. You can fly to Exeter, 15 km distant; this is a small airport with European and UK flights. Bristol airport, 140 km away offers a much larger UK and international service.
