Home description

The villa is placed right at the centre of the village of Giurdignano, in the Otranto area.The villa can accommodate up to 8 people (with 3 bedrooms). Part of the charm of this house is the construction that reflects the salento’s style. The milan based architect reproduced the same salento’s design using all local stone and material. It has a loft style living room with a fire place and a big table that can sit 10 people plus a table outside that can sit 6 people. There are 3 bedrooms located on two floors with 2 bathrooms. In the dining room there is also a sofa bed for 2 people. In this room there's also a full equipped kitchen.
In the courtyard, equipped with a table for outside meals and a BBQ you have beautiful orange and lemon trees that keep the shade during the summer nights.
The position of the house gives all guests the possibility to meet the local people, always very warm with foreigners. Giurdignano is a very small village of 1000 inhabitants situated in the beautiful country side surrounded by olive trees just 5 km away from the beautiful sea of Otranto. It is famous for the presence of megalitic monuments dolmen or menhir, of the archeological site called 'Le Centoporte", of several criptas, of which the most famous the church-cripta of San Salvatore, of two hipogean tombs of the eneolitic period (II millennium B.C.).

Also, although this part of Italy is very quiet, it is good to know that the location of the house offers its guests a very secure environment. The summer nights are normally cool and dry, full of pleasant scents. The silence of the place is quite impressive even in the busiest August nights.

Puglia is in the south of Italy, a region surrounded by the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea.It' s famous
for ancient history,the ruins of Greek and Romans temples and preistoric monuments; for the marvellous rocky and sandy beaches,the beautiful and unique baroque - style of its cities and for the fertil land that gives oil and wine of excellent quality.

Penisola Salentina is rich of incredible towns: Lecce is the most famous. You can visit the castle, the marvellous churches of Santa Croce and Chiesa del Rosario and the Palazzo Vescovile. It's nice to see the market on Mondays and Fridays around the central Piazza St Oronzo with local produce and ceramics from Grottaglie, the original home of terracotta. Lecce by night is amazing.

Otranto / Giurdignano area

Otranto was a Greek colony which became subject to Roman rule; Otranto was a stronghold of Catholic civilization, resisting Turkish invasion on many occasions.Otranto was liberated by Ferdinand of Aragon who then fortified it. So you can visit the ARAGONESE CASTLE, the bastions and the gates to the town
you can also visit the cathedral, and its chapel where the bones of Otranto’s 800 martyrs are shown ,the crypt and the mosaic (the biggest in the world) created by the monk Pantaleone.

In Giurdignano , one of the most ancient towns in the Salento,you can see a prehistoric menhir towers over an underground Byzantine crypt.

The coast is long and varied .The sea is uncontaminated and turquoise( TURK’S BAY is an incredible beach).

How to get there

Giurdignano is located 50 minutes from the airport of Brindisi and 30 minutes from the city of Lecce, famous for its baroque architecture. A car is necessary to move around the area as public transportation is limited. Car rental is found in Brindisi at the airport and in other locations. Taxis and private drivers are available in Otranto. A bicycle rental service is available including a tour guide.

There is the possibility to have a maid service every day that charges 10 euros per hour. There is a final cleaning charge of 80 euros.

A gardner that takes care of the plants is included in the price. Upon request he can also transport people to/from the airport for an extra charge and organize boat trips with the house's fishermen boat moored in the port of Leuca.

Any day changeover apart from July & August which are Saturdays only. There is a deposit cheque to be given at the beginning of the stay and will be returned at the end if there have been no damages to the house. Time of check in: 3 p.m. Time of check our: 10 a.m. In lower season these hours can be more flexible.
