Typical folk festivals are held throughout the area of Salento throughout the year, but especially during the summer months, the famous example is "La Notte della Taranta" in Melpignano held in August.

The night of Taranta is the largest music festival dedicated to the recovery of the Salento pinches "pizzica"and its fusion with other musical idioms ranging from world music to rock, from jazz to symphonic. The "pizzica" is the music that marked the ancient ritual of care by the bite of the tarantula imagery, the dangerous poisonous spider. Tradition has it that in order to free the victim, usually a woman, the tambourines sounded incessantly swirling to the beat until it was dissolved by the spell.
