The Puglia/Molise region
The heel of Italy's boot has a warm climate. The freshest seafood dishes, the greenest vegetables, the sweetest fruit from the land: a real foodie mecca.
Puglia has beautiful sunny days almost from April till late October the hottest of those being July, August and September. It is a land of olive and lemon groves and some of the warmest nicest people you could wish to meet. Torre Guaceto: "hanging between stars and freshwater" this is a natural state reserve this is a place of outstanding natural beauty.
A protected territory of coast and sand dunes there is an ancient tower that was built in 1500 by the Aragones to warn of invasions of the Turks this is truly a magical place where you may walk or cycle and spend time at peace. Torre Guaceto is a must see and is only 10 min away from the villa and one of the most beautiful safe sandy coves in the area will be found here enjoy.
Ostuni / San Vito dei Normanni area
Ostuni, the white city, is an interesting walk round, San Vito Dei Normanni, is the local town where you can buy anything if you look hard enough and the stunning Lecce (Florence of the south), Italy's loveliest baroque town is only some 40kms away but worth a visit. To the South and West of Brindisi can be found Gallipoli and Taranto, all well signposted and of course Spartacus was said to have passed this way!
Great eating can be found in San Vito dei Normanni at the Volcano Restaurant and Pizzaria on Via Carovigno, another great restaurant can be found on the road to Taranto south of San Vito-a true Italian pizzeria, with welcoming staff and very good food.
San Vito is a town with lovely people we think that the town is having some good investment at time of writing and has a little of very old Italian and some newer shops and roads the market on Mondays is bright and vibrant with a wide range of very fresh fruit and veg until you have eaten a San Vito orange you have never tasted one!!
Alberobello is the home of the trulli, something everybody should see along with a visit to the beautiful Castellano Caves near by. Egnazia is an Roman port of Greek origin - masses of ruins and a museum.
For motor racing fans, a good afternoon or evening can be had at the new GO CARTING circuit on the road to Mesagne out of San Vito at a reasonable rate. There is a very nice cafe here for those who don't drive, there are caves to be found in Grotte di s. Giovanni north of Brindsi.
Every Monday there is a market in San Vito with lashings of fresh fruit and veg, clothes and furnishings and the market folk are very friendly. Ostuni hosts a market every Saturday morning which sells just about everything with great ceramics, food and furniture all at very good prices. Every 2nd Sunday of each month there is a super antiques market in Centro Storico with a lot to see.
If you are unlucky enough to have a rainy day or two there is a ten pin bowling ally and amusement arcade on the road to Pilone or in Monopoli there is an indoor play centre for children also you can eat there. There is a zoo and funfair at Fansano at which you can spend a day.
