Home description
Casa Machiavelli is only a short walk from the many bars and cafes that are dotted around the winding cobbled streets of the 'Centro Storico'. Situated in the beautiful old town and just off the main road that leads directly down to the historical centre. The park 'villa comunal' is literally just around the corner and has a lovely cafe and children's play area.
A truly stunning, independant house which has recently been fully renovated to a very high standard. The property boasts modern contemporary furniture set to a backdrop of original stonework that complement each other to enhance the natural aesthetics of the building. The original layout and characteristics have been kept intact with designer Fixtures added throughout. Furniture has been carefully sourced and installed to help create a warm, homely and welcoming surround.
The house has a large double master bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower, and 1 single bedroom with bunkbeds. The master bedroom has exposed stone walls and stone 'star-vaulted' ceiling. It also boasts its own double opening and is nice just to sit with the doors open, a double espresso and chocolate croissant in hand, and let the warm morning sun slowly awaken you while you plan your forthcoming day.
The property provides a large kitchen/dining area which is separate to the living area. The tiled kitchen surround incorporates a washing machine, fridge freezer, four ring hob and microwave/oven combi unit. You also have a double door leading to the balcony at the front of the house.
As you enter the dining area, on your right you will see an arch that leads to the living area. You have a quality, very easy to use (no cushions) sofabed. There is seating for five with a walk in wardrobe/space if used as a bedroom. The sofabed is tucked away to the right so not to be seen from the dining area. Exposed stone ceilings.
The split level 'terrazzo' has a spacious feel and looks over the entire city down to the adriatic sea, provides dining for 6, and 2 sun loungers. There are many plants on the terrace that give a cosy feel.
There is air conditioning on all floors and gas central heating.

The Puglia/Molise region
Puglia (or Apulia as the english like to refer) is largely a flat landscape of rolling countryside which is very much dependant on its agricultural successes. A land of olive groves and vineyards that has so far escaped the mass tourism that has engulfed the rest of the country.
Italians of the region very much like to work to live rather than live to work. Very little will obscure their tradition of afternoon siesta, where people will shut up shop and generally laze around for a couple of hours in the midday sun. Yet, just as the siesta proves to be a stubbornly immovable custom, so to is the 'passeggiata' - an evening stroll through the balmy cobbled streets as the towns reawaken and people come together for coffee, icecream and a good old gossip.
The weather is generally very sunny and warm, and you can expect gorgeous, sun drenched days from April through to October. Temperatures are in the range of 20-35°C in summer and 15-25°C in springtime. You will still find many, many days out of season where the weather is warm and the skies are clear.
Puglia has some of the finest and best value foods and wines in the country. Wine shops (“Entoteca’s”) and supermarkets are stocked with top quality DOCG wines from around £2 per bottle and an 8-course starter (“antipasti” ) in a top restaurant will cost from around £4 !
An area famous for its peaceful, untouched and natural wildlife, with villages and towns full of Baroque and Romanic churches and palazzi. Medieval castles and fortresses aplenty.
Ostuni / Ostuni Centre area
Ostuni is Ideally situated 6km from the coast line and directly between two major airports of the region. It is the perfect base in which to start your adventure into Puglia. The town, also known as the 'Citta Bianca' white city is near the famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the medieval Castel del Monte (Bari) and Alberobello. The latter being the land of the 'trulli', which are curious, rounded white structures, with grey stone cone-shaped roofs. They are common in the province of Bari and Taranto, yet unknown in the rest of the world. The city Lecce, and the towns Locorotondo, Martina Franca and Gallipoli are also all a short drive away. The Grotte di Castellana (Italy’s largest underground cave network) and the fantastic Fasano Safari Zoo and amusement park, are only a short drive away too.
Rough Guide ; "one of the most stunning small towns of southern Italy", "a gleaming white splash of sun-bleached streets and cobbled alleyways"
Lonely Planet ; "stunning town of stark, whitewashed buildings", "the seemingly disordered tangle of narrow cobblestone streets, many little more than arched stairways between the houses, recalls a North African Arab medina"
There are several lovely “Blue-Flag” beaches near Ostuni including the lively Pilone 2 and Camerini at Villanova (by the “Il Faro” bar), the relaxed Torre Pozzella stretch and the gorgeous Torre Guaceto, a WWF protected nature reserve. For those who prefer to hang around in a trendy “Chill Out Bar” and dive from the rocks, there is “Jimmiz Bar” at Gorgonola.
Ostuni is littered with different places to try when the sun goes down. From quaint little restaurants that are tucked away neatly into a crevasse within one of the many winding lanes, to the most trendiest cocktail bars that you will ever find, that are sculpted and form their existance from the natural rock on which the town sits upon. All are open well into the early hours......with typical european measures...........so enjoy.
Our favourits cocktail bars: Riccardo's Gipas Our favourite restaurants: Osteria Piazzetta Cattedrale Al Solito Posto Pietra Luna (Villanova)
