The Puglia/Molise region

Puglia could almost be described as the area that time has passed by. Hundreds of miles of open countryside filled with Olive groves and just about every other fruit tree bulging with fresh fruit and every acre of ground full of fresh produce.

From small hamlets, to small villages, to small towns, to larger towns and cities, each unique with its own personal history and traditions, each claiming to supply the freshest and most mouth watering food imaginable, when in fact they are all supplying local delicacies unique to that particular village or town.

The sea coast with plenty of bays and beaches attracts everyone to the water which is warm, crystal clear and unspoilt, drive to find a spot you like, park up, grab your cool box and beach 'toys' then walk through the nearest dune or track and wow the Adriatic Sea - beautiful.

With so many historic, picturesque or just quaint places to see within easy reach of your holiday home it would be difficult to say which you 'MUST' see.

Ostuni / San Vito dei Normanni area

Many day trips are possible :
Alberobello, Cisternino, Locorotondo : The trulli-area, see the wonderful 'trulli scrumptious houses' find out their history?
Fasano, Matera (to see how people lived and still live in caves cut into the hillside, Ostuni (fantastic when its lit up a night) Mesagne, Lecce, (at the end of the 'Appian' way and known as the Venice of the south) all depict southern italy and its people who are lovely.
Our town San Vito De Normanni :It is said that our own Saint Vito defeated the Normans and sent them packing. Brinidisi the bigger sister is full of shops and amenities and its great port with its direct ferry crossing to Greece, is steeped in history and in ancient times is where every Army crossed to battle in the Crusades.

You could even take the 4 hour drive, stay overnight and visit Pompeii the buried and ruined Roman City located near Naples.

Puglia, is steeped in a veritable kaleidoscope of history and traditions. Over hundreds of years it has been invaded many times and each time a little culture and tradition has been left behind, which in turn has created such a diverse and beautiful legacy for us all to enjoy today.

How to get there

AboutMyPlace

View Interactive Map

You have many options and choices of flying to Brindisi the local airport (20mins from the villa) or Bari airport (1hour from the villa) some will have a short stop in either Milan linate or Milan malpensa or Rome or Rome Fiumicino before coming down to our local airports. (nb both Milan and Rome have 2 airports make sure you match you connections to the right airport)
low cost airlines such as www.easyjet.co.uk www.ryanair.co.uk make travelling to italy easy from all over the uk. infact ryanair fly direct to Brindisi and Bari 4 times a week from London Stanstead so no change of flight is necessary - flight time 2.5 hours
various airlines including Airone (www.flyairone.it) operate the short flights from Milan or Rome down to the Villa Airports. www.Alitalia.com is the italian airline and they connect from all over europe.
Another option is flying into Naples and driving 4 great scenic hours or even drive from Rome which takes 6 hours.

Car Hire: Car hire is really easy at both airports and the car quality is excellent (not battered and worn out) you can easily hire and return back to different airports. We find it cheaper to book before you leave and the price reflects what time of year you go. easy jet or ryan air car hire booked on their website even if you don't fly with them has been the cheapest rates for a good sized car. you can even book an Alfa Romeo !
All the major car companies Avis, National, Alamo...... hire small cars upto minivans.

You will need a car for this holiday in order to take advantage of the miles of empty roads, taking you through some of Italy's most beautiful scenery, historic hamlets, villages, towns and cities and of course driving the 10 mins down to the beach with all that gear for the kids !

'We did indeed have a wonderful holiday - all was fine and we had a truly lovely stay. having air conditioning and mosquito nets over the windows really made a difference - I think yours was the first Italian villa we've stayed in to have both and they really made a difference to the nights.'

'Villa Serena was really very nice and it fit our purposes well. We really had three weeks of peace. It was comfy-cozy and well equipped for vacationers. Thanks.'
