The Puglia/Molise region
Puglia, the remote heel of Italy's boot, dramatically combines fairytale cottages, Baroque churches and Pagan dances. Places to visit include the many nearby beaches, handsome Baroque towns such as Martina Franca and the engaging Lecce - the 'Florence of the Baroque', the 'White City' of Ostuni, and the streets of traditional 'trulli' cottages in Alberobello.
The climate is entirely Mediterranean, with mild wet winters and hot dry ventilated summers. The weather is at its hottest in July/August. The summer season typically begins in May through September.
Puglia sums up all that is best about Mediterranean cuisine: top-quality local produce (olives, vegetables, cheeses, fruits) combined and prepared in the simplest of ways, to tantalise your taste buds. A must-try specialty is the traditional local pasta Orecchiette or 'little ears'. Puglia's historic links with the Arab and Byzantine worlds led local cooks to xperiment with spices, chilli and aubergines. Seafood such as mussels, sea urchins and anchovies have a solid place in the regional tradition. Some of the best local restaurants are family operations that have gone upmarket without betraying their home-cooking roots.
Ostuni area
Also known as The White City, Ostuni is situated on southern Murge, 6 kilometres from the Adriatic Sea. Ostuni is a small city in the province of Brindisi (Puglia, Italy), with a population of about 32,000 situated about 8 km from the coast. Its main economic activities include tourism, known for its nearby pristine beaches, as well as a vibrant olive and grape agribusiness. The town is festive and lively in the Summer, and there is an abundance of restaurants, cafes and ice cream parlours to enjoy.

Guestbook for Villa Licuti
'Fantastic place, amazing pool. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. We felt totally refreshed after our stay. There were some exquisite restaurants and at such affordable prices. We look forward to our next visit! ' Steff Gold (August 2007)
'Beautiful views. Ostuni is magical - we loved the views from the house at night. Great to be so close to the markets, we had some wonderful meals on the terrace. And please thank Bill for all his help during our stay.' Bill and Marry Vernon (September 2007)
'We had heard Puglia was beautiful but we weren't prepared for such a holiday. The house is superb, so quiet and relaxing. We had a well-needed dose of 'la dolce vita'. Thank you.' Daniel and Michelline Nairac (September 2007)
Thanks again for the holiday - it really was one of those perfect ones where everything fell into place. I added a few things to the holiday folder (horse riding, zoo safari etc). Really is a good place for kids. Jo Renshaw (July/Aug 2008)
Well what a fabulous place you have in Ostuni! We had a wonderful holiday. I have to say the children had a marvelous time and Macy was a star.. very helpful at all times. The location is excellent and Ostuni a very lovely town. You chose very well! Are you planning to make it available for let next year in August? We would like to book again if you have the availability. Paul O’Higgins (Aug 2008)
