The sitting area of the kitchen also offers a modern TV and DVD player for your relaxation in the late evening or watching and video or listening to music. Outside the kitchen the veranda offers both covered and open space for relaxing, reading or sunbathing. The whole of the roof area is accessible also as a sun terrace and as somewhere to enjoy the sunset and have a early eving drink. There are almonds , pears, pomegranite and of course olives.

The trullo sits equidistant from some of the most interesting towns and villages in Puglia. All the towns of Ostuni, Cisternino, and Ceglie Massappica offer stunning southern Italian streets, churches and castles to visit as well as the usual rahnge of fine restaurants, pizzerias and bars. Within 30 minutes drive you can also take in Martina Franca with its magnificant city feel. basilica and fine views of the Salento peninsula. Within an hour from the trull you can also visit Bari with its great catherdral, named after St Nicolas as well as the football stadium , of the same name, which is home of one of the Italian Serie A's greatest teams. Brisdisi is also woth a visit at only 30 minutes away and a trip to Lecce about 45 minutes away is a must for lovers of Baroque architecture and grandeur. A car tour of the southern most part of the peninsular will take aver an hour but is worth the journey especially a visit to Gallipoli and the few villages on the way to San Marie dell Lueca where a dialect of ancient greek is still spoken. The greek past must be explored with a trip to the museum of Grecia Magna in Taranto. On the way from the trull a visit to the ceramic capital of the south is in Lagrottaglie. Just to the north and a little into the region of Basilicata you should take the opportunity to visit the cave city of Matera where looks like it would fit well into a middle-eastern setting- it has been the location for many films including mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ.

The Puglia/Molise region

The house is located 4km along and 600m off the main road between the striking towns of Ostuni and Cisternino among beautiful rural rolling hills. You are ideally situated to explore the famous Trulli capital of Alberobello and take in the Limestone caves of Castellana near by. You are also near some great coastal town such as Monopoli and Polignano a Mare and the extensive beaches of Torre Canne or the beach and headland sites at Marina di Ostuni near Monticelli.

The towns and cities are a delight and a great source of local pride. Ostuni and Cisternino are exceptional for their medieval architecture and great views to the sea and across the Valle d’Itria. There is also the baroque spendour of Martina Franca with it’s cathedral of St Martin and it’s Opera Festival running from 21 July to 11 August each year.

There are many beach resorts within a short drive, which are well equipped for small children seen from the S.S 379 called often Tourist Villages. The town of Fasano is not particularly interesting except that it has a great safari park and mini Alton Towers, a bit dated but great for the little ones.

Ostuni will provide you with the perfect opportunity to relax in it’s many cafes restaurants in the old city, some of which are built into the hillside as caves. There is a huge market on Saturday where you can buy almost anything but especially great for fresh fruit and veg and incredible local cheeses, olives and cured hams – you will not go hungry. This region has one of the greatest cuisine in Italy and that is quite a boast. You must try the antipasti, which are a selection (more like a meze in reality) of famous local specialities.

The nearest village is called Casalini and boasts a great eatery which doubles as the village butchers(Maccelleria). All the dishes are local and predominantly meat of course all roasted almost before you eyes and delicious, washed down of course with the local vino della casa- house wine. This village is to the left as you come out of the private road to the house in the direction of the town of Cisternino.

Cisternino is a smaller version of Ostuni and even more low key and relaxing and is 10 minutes away form the house. It has been described as the most beautiful small town in Italy. The town square looks like the set for a production of any Rossini comic opera.

If you wish to explore further then you can visit the national Park of the Gargano to the north taking in the Capital of the Region Bari and Trani. Bari boasts great shopping and a very old historical centre with the two great churches; the Basilica of San Nicola( Santa Claus) and the cathedral itself. In the Gargano you should head for Vieste and Tremiti islands off the coast. If you go south to the tip of Italy taking in Gallipoli and Taranto and the walled city of Otranto you will enter the great wine region of Salento and Manduria. The western side of Puglia on the Gulf of Taranto has endless stretches of sandy beaches and busy resort towns all the way to S. Maria di Lueca on the tip.

Only 50 km south is the big city of Brindisi with it’s large port with many sailings to the Greek mainland, Corfu, Cefalonia, Albania and the Balkans and even Istanbul. The city is worth a look and has much to offer for a day out. You should also take in the beautiful city of Lecce, 90 kms to the south, which is a splendid example of baroque architecture with great churches and squares. As in all southern Italian towns, the passagiata is a must. Around 5pm you will see the whole town come out in their finest and walk up and down the streets eating ice cream, pizza slices and foccacia.

"Tranquillo, the name says it all!"

What a perfect holiday we had.
The property had been recently renovated and extended and what a beautiful job has been done. At the end of the lane this oasis is never at risk of through traffic or noisy neighbours. The house is tastefully furnished with really comfortable beds and seating throughout. It is well appointed with two full bathrooms and an extra outdoor shower which comes in handy on those hot afternoons. The kitchen has all one needs to cook up a storm and then eat on the wonderful covered terrace just outside. For sun lovers there is plenty of outdoor space to relax in with a huge garden area and a super roof top veranda which has breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Talking about the area the trullo is perfect for a short drive to the stunning town of Ostuni with it's show white buildings, fabulous restaurants and shops. Cisternino, Martina Franca or any of the towns nearby are also well worth a visit.
As for the beaches and that sea, it is hard to describe how deep blue it really is.
Oh well, back to real life!!!!!!

"A small paradise at the end of a dirt track!!!"

We had a magnificient time at Trullo Tranquillo.
It was a very quiet location, with a great view, a beautiful countryside all around but very close to a lot of touristic places and the sea.
The owner very generously let us pick the fruits that grow in the garden and so we took advantage of his offer and had the juiciest little pears, figs, barbary figs and lots of almonds.
My 6 year old developped a habbit of watching the stars from the roof terrasse at night.
The trullo was impeccably clean and a very welcoming environment.
I would go back tomorrow if I could!!!!

"A nice and quiet base for exploring Puglia"

"Rural Tranquility"

Perfectly named trullo. Peaceful and quiet ant the end of a little dirt road. We had perfect weather and spent some of our time walking on the maze of back roads around the house, exploring abandoned Trulli . Other times we relaxed in our travel hammocks hung in the olive grove. There were a couple lounge chairs in the shed but we never got them out so I can't report on them. We easily explored the surrounding towns and spent a day at the sea. The house is small, as many trulli are, but we were just two and only inside to sleep and have a fire in the evening. We luckily never had to deal with dashing through the rain to get to the kitchen but I'm sure we could have coped.
