About this location

The Puglia region

Puglia (in English called Apulia), is the heel of Italy in the south east, a land of extraordinary colours and wonderful variety. The towns of Puglia are rich of architectural and historical evidence – Romanesque, Baroque, churches, cathedrals, castles and towers. The regional capital is Bari, the other provinces are Brindisi, Manner, Lecce and Taranto. Lecce is also known as "the Florence of the South".

Magnificent Palazzi and fountains in the urban centres as well as historic oil mills and farmsteads on the country put out the rich cultural successor of this region. The hidden charm of the coastal towns can be discovered in the midst of the alleys and Palazzi which form only the background to one of the most beautiful coasts in whole Italy with a high water quality. Many beautiful places along the coast and by magic beaches offer an unforgettable sight.

The famous “Trulli”, round stone houses, part of the world cultural heritage of mankind, stand in big number in Alberobello and about the whole Valle d`Itria scattered, clear certificates of the traditional dry stone construction.

The region enjoys a warm climate all year and is one of the least rainy regions.

Over twenty protected areas managed by different public entities in order to protect and preserve an extremely diverse, unique natural heritage Regional Cuisine With their mastery, bakers, dairymen, and farmers turn land fruits into products that owe their rich flavors and fragrances to their simpleness.

Regional Cuisine

5 PDO oils coming from magnificent, centuries-old Apulian olive trees and bringing out the flavors of typical regional dishes. Particularly are to be recommended the local “Antipasti”, which are produced with from fresh and place-typical ingredients

Ostuni

Ostuni, is called "the white city" and its village is one of the most beautiful in Italy, with the lanes arrovellano between the typical whitewashed houses. The apparent disorder distribution of the houses around the cathedral gives the center a unique conformation.

This costume has played a role of great importance in the field of history, in fact the houses were whitewashed in the seventeenth century with lime because it was believed to be the only way to avoid the plague dilagasse in the town and the contagion would increase up to bring destruction.

This use of lime for whitewashing the houses in the old town part of those who are still in the peculiarities of the town and is a feature that makes it recognizable.
