The Puglia region
Puglia is an ancient land and this area boasts spectacular cities on every hill! Ostuni, Martina Franca, Ceglie, Cisternino, Locorotondo, Alberobello. All locations are close to the “Trullo”. A little further Lecce, Bari, Matera and Andria, with Castel del Monte and Polignano close by... (find details in the guides), but you should also read the newspapers, so that you can discover the modern cultural vitality of Puglia. Concerts, shows, dances, workshops, festivals of the country,... tirelessly throughout the summer and beyond. Also close to the “Trullo” interesting things are happening: for example the theater “La Luna nel Pozzo”, 3 km from the “Trullo”, or the Alter Fest near Cisternino. An interesting youth music festival, in an area equipped for the occasion, with stalls and food for two weeks in August.
The Adriatic Sea is beautiful and the Ionian Sea is truly amazing. We advise you to pay attention to the direction of the wind when choosing which sea to go to. If it is blowing from the north we suggest to go to the Ionian Sea, because you'll find the Adriatic Sea agitated. In high season we recommend Campomarino and Torre Colimena, small, less crowded places. On the Adriatic side we recommend the nature reserve of Torre Guaceto (very nice for diving with pleanty of fish!) and Apani, immediately to the south. While you are walking through the reserve, you will find a large bay protected from winds and a coastal landscape. For your “every day” sea visits you should go to Torre Pozzella and the bays wich follow from there to Cala dei Ginepri, or the beautiful white beaches between Pilone and Torre Canne. Both on the Adriatic Sea.
The Trullo is situated in Contrada Cervarolo, whose name recalls the presence of deer in the foothills of Murgia when it was still covered with forests. The first buildings of this area date back to the sixteenth century. A few hundred meters from the ”Trullo”, you will find a beautiful ”masseria”, a traditional farm, with its baroque church of 1798, once a place of religious pilgrimage.
The rolling hills of the district still have a low population density. The territory is divided into areas of approximately 10,000 square meters. Many are still attended, at least in summer, by its native owners. Others, like ours, were bought and restored not only by Italians but also from people all over the world. Some VIPs live well hidden in the area.
The complex has a wonderful southern exposure and is located approximately 300 meters above sea level, dominating the district with its large cone.
The Trullo has certainly been inhabited since 1800 and was a landmark for the neighborhood because of its wood-fired oven, the only one of the area. Even today it can happen that some old lady arrives for a visit to remember the past ... and brows around.

We spent a very peculiar relaxing time getting back to the simplest pleasures of life. Set in the serenity of the D'Itria valley, the Trullo is a typical example of a Puglian stone traditional ho… More

"Traditionele trullo in een prachtig Puglia"
De accommodatie was ruim van opzet en redelijk compleet. De omgeving in een woord prachtig. We hebben een prima vakantie gehad.Het onderhoud behoeft echter aandacht. Zwembad was niet meteen bruikbaar,… More
Dear Ellen, we're already clarified but It's important for me let here my answer.
> Dear Ellen,
> it is heartbreaking to hear this news from you and thank you very much for talking to me sincerely.
> Not all of the responsibilities of Manuela and I try to explain something to all your, right, critics. I know that this does not solve the problems you had, but it's just to make you understand the difficulties in managing a country estate, from away.
> 1) Umidity problem: This is the first year I had this kind of problem, because of the strange season. Normally my guest don't need the machine. But, next year I will by 2 more, so in any buildings people can use. But, in the country and in the stone house, the most importart thing is to ventilate, don't close the little windows or the fireplase. For example the "oblo" in the lamia is very usefull. For that reason and because Manuela can forget to tell usefull things, I will explain more correct instruction about the use of a tradition place.
> 2) About the bed disposition, sorry but is was a Manuela problem and also my becouse by phone i don' t remeber this but we was speaking only about your little food party.
> 3) The pool is a big problem and I have the all responsability. It's not in a correct position and the 2 pomps I by this year was broken in the end of august. They are expensive and they don't work for more than 2 month. So next year I need to take a new solution, with a normal pool plant and il costs 2.500 €. But Manuela knows that she hat to change the water if people use it and for that reason she had to stay in contact.
> I honestly do not understand why communications with manuela have been so difficult. During the week I asked her and she said that you did not you reply to her text message, which seems to me very strange and even impossible.
> Manuela is a dear friend for me and also a big reaurce, but I'm sure that things don't go like as I'll be there.
> Sorry for that and thanks again for you mail, really and sincerely.
