This bedroom has it's own en-suite bathroom, terrace and entrance. There is a large fully equipped kitchen with dining table and chairs. All guests will find a 'welcome pack' containing basic supplies to start their vacation with us(food allergies and sensitivities must be advised prior to arrival and contents may vary depending on availability).

Enjoy the peace and tranquility of 'I Tramonti di Calongo' and "go with the flow" of the Buddhist inspired owners and you'll quickly discover your stress and worries disappearing rapidly.

Explore our garden where you'll find olive trees, fruit trees and indigenous shrubs. Feel free to pick any fruit that happens to be ready. There is nothing better than pulling cherries, figs, apples, peaches or pears from the tree and eating them there and then. Don't worry about insecticides and pesticides! Nothing harmful has been used in our garden in fifteen years! We endeavour to maintain the garden in a natural working condition as apposed to an 'ornemental' one.

Feeling guilty about leaving your doggie behind?? Forget it! We are very doggie friendly. We have two of our own (Lucky and Kikka) who are always happy to make new friends be they human or canine.

Why not take a stroll(or short drive of 2km) to our beautiful whitewashed town of Cisternino? You'll find supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants. In the summer, there is always a concert, a folk band or some dancing going on. Let down your hair and have a go at 'la pizzica'- a local folk dance or grab a bite to eat 'al fresco' at one of the many small restaurants that serve good home cooked local produce.

The Puglia/Molise region

Puglia(or Apulia) really has it all! Long, hot dry summers and mild winters. Whitewashed villages perched on hills and beautiful coastal towns are dotted over the region. Apulia has one of the longest coastlines in Italy with stunning cliffs and amazing sandy beaches on both the Adriatic and Ionian seas. Along the coastline and inland, one can still see evidence of Apulia's invaders in the form of castles, fortifications and architecture of the Normans, the Turks, the Spanish and the Swabians(namely Frederick The Second) and the Greeks. These different influences over the centuries give us Apulia of today and a truly authentic holiday destination.

The region of Apulia relies on its olive oil producing credentials, agricultural diversity and the 'treasures of the sea'. The region's cuisine is based on the principles of fresh and local, as these were the cheapest products available to an impoverished population and usually grown by themselves. Aubergines, peppers, tomatoes, artichokes, courgettes, onions, garlic, chillies, local fruit and grapes, fresh fish and homemade bread and pasta are the basics of their healthy diet. During the summer months, there are plenty of opportunities to sample examples of local dishes in each town's 'food festival' or 'sagra' along with stunning local wines.

Ostuni

The Cisternino of today sits on a chalky outcrop of the Valley of Itria in the eastern Murgia are of Apulia. This area, stretching from Cegie Messapica through Ostuni(The White City) to Alberobello is renowned for it's dry stone wall buildings. In particular, the 'trulli', the round conical roofed stone built dwellings typical of this area. In Alberobello, the trulli occur in large numbers and the whole site is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Cisiternino itself is a maze of narrow cobbled lanes lined with whitewashed houses reminiscent of Greece or Turkey. Gernanium laden balconies peer down and external stone staircases lead up to higher levels and small alleys branch of leading to concealed small piazzas.

The central Piazza Vittorio Emanuele plays host to a diverse range of events during the summer months, all watched over by the beautiful Clock Tower. Sunday apperitivo accompanied by classical music or an operatic recital, local folk music, local (award winning) brass bands taking part in the annual competition, street entertainers, poetry recitals and many more besides make the Piazza a hub of entertainment. In the narrow streets leading off the Piazza, you'll find many of the 'bracceria' for which Cisternino is more recently well known. In the 'bracceria', you could be mistaken for thinking you were in a butchers shop. However, look more closely and you'll find it's a restaurant as well. Choose from the selection of local meats on display, it will be roasted in the special vertical wood fired oven ,on skewers, and then served at your table. Enjoy it will a glass of good earthy Negromara , a local red wine ,al fresco at one of the many outdoor tables in the narrow lanes.
