**We recently returned from a week at Casa Serena. The whole experience of Happy Holiday Homes was first rate. From the outset, we had detailed and useful information that helped us to make our property selection. The pre-read material and directions were clear and accurate. On arrival, the office staff in Menaggio were very helpful, providing maps and other practical information.
Most importantly, our time at Casa Serena was delightful. The property was clean, quiet and had a lovely view of the lake. It is a short walk downhill to the village and the lake. Casa Serena was well equipped with everything we needed including lots of information on the local area. We ate our breakfasts each morning on the terrace, enjoying the lake on one side and the mountain behind us. The ringing of the town's church bells added to the ambience. The owners of the property were friendly and very helpful, but not intrusive. We felt treated as special guests.
Ossuccio is a small village but has a couple of places to eat. We especially liked the cafe on the lakefront at the Lido de Ossucio, where we had a few casual evening meals. It has good food and a beautiful view. It is also possible to walk to Lenno via the pedestrian walkway for a broader range of options. To go anywhere else, you need a car or else catch a local bus.
During our stay, we rented a boat from Toby at Nautic Planet in Menaggio. The boat was in great condition and we loved travelling up and down the lake. Seeing the villas from the water gives a very different perspective.
Special thanks to Danilo for the expert advice on driving to St Moritz. Danilo gave us great information about travelling there and back, via two different mountain passes. The day trip to St Moritz was a nice interlude in our week in the Lake Como.
Thank you for a very enjoyable holiday.

**We had absolutely wonderful vacation with our 2 boys (3 and 1 years old). The appartment was spacy for all of us, with good beds and nice view of the lake! It is perfectly equiped with washing machine, dishwasher as well as microwave, which was pefect for the baby! The hosters were very helpful and nice (on our arrival we had even a pack of pasta and wine in the kitchen!). The gateway of the house is a bit tricky, as extremely narrow and steep, so i couldn´t drive up myself to the appartment. But my husband did it, and after some practice, it was not that difficult.
The appartment is on the ground floor, with a wonderful terrace, where we could sit till the late evening, even when it was raining. The house has a gate, so we didn´t have to worry about the kids running out of the property, which was very relaxing.
Ossuccio Is a nice village with a public beach (although not really suitable for the small kids) and a nice old church with a fantastic view. One can also walk from one village to another, as well as to Villa del Babianello (James Bond Villa) (allthough the road is not always good for the buggy). We also found a very nice small beach on the way to Lenno. Walking distance around 15 minutes, with sand and flat entrance to the water. Be sure you also rent a boat! It was great to drive in the evening and enjoy the view of small villages and the great villas.
I also want to mention another great attraction for the kids – a small bus-train which is driving from Lenno to Mennagio! Our older boy was sooo happy and could drive it actually every day! It was a nice alternative to the car and a great attraction for the kids (to our ones even more, than driving by ship).

About this location
The Lake Como region
The Italian Lakes are a little slice of paradise. Elegant ribbons of blue water stretch out ahead, folded into the sun-baked foothills, with a spectacular back drop of the snow-capped Alps.
Lake Como offers hidden treasures just waiting for the visitor to discover them: charming corners forgotten by time, lakeside villages where nothing seems to have changed for centuries.
It is steeped in history with an immense collection of churches, architectural masterpieces and works of art covering the centuries. The lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains, and offers an extremely varied landscape, with its' shores featuring a succession of pastures, and woods as well as harsh and impressive rock formations.
All this alongside elegant, lakeside villas with sub-tropical gardens, which provide a haven of peace and tranquillity and chic resorts such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Como itself.
Warming, inspring and graced with natural beauty, the lakes are still a place to draw breath and wonder. Lake Como, oriented north-south, ringed by characterful old villages often wedged onto
narrow beaches between rugged cliffs and water. Those classic lake images of flower strewn balconies, Baroque gardens and splendid waterside villas can be found here in abundance. Dotted around and between the lakes are some of Italy's finest art cities, such as Milan, Verona & Bergamo.
The most romantic and picturesque villages on the lake are Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna (15 min by ferry) & Bellagio (8 min by ferry), Lenno (visit Villa Balbianello, location for 007's Casino Royale as well as Villa Gaeta, right here in Menaggio) & Laglio (where George Clooney owns Villa Oleandra).
Ossuccio and surrounding area The beauty about Lake Como is in it's diversity offering so much to so many. If you just want to come away for a week or so and put your feet up by the balcony with the obvious benefit of world renowned scenery Lake Como will not dissapoint.
The area's only sandy golden man made beach can be found close to Ossuccio village (5 mins by car to Lenno) where waiters bring you your favourite cocktail while you admire the lake from beneath your minature tented gazebo! For those who like to get out and about, lakeside walks, breathtaking villas, pretty piazzas, majestic mountains, quaint villages and quintessential italian cities beckon.
The park in Ossuccio is favoured by locals her to soak up the sun or enjoy a drink at the bar. The lake como greenway is also found close by for walking enthusiasts who wish to sample the sheer beauty of the area and keep fit at the same time! The local regional food is amongst the finest in Italy as you would expect from a region so passionate about food. Milan is just over an hour away for the principal designers but Como city offers a more compact alternative with it's array of little boutiques, cafe culture, paved streets, gothic cathedrals and stunning lakeside location.
Romantics are well served with the Villa Carlotta and it's majestic gardens, Villa Erba in Cernobbio, another lakeside favourite of ours - perfect to enjoy a gelato along the lake front whilst walking off another italian lunch! Perhaps the most popular for sheer beauty is Villa Balbianello in near by Lenno. Eagle eyed James Bond fans will no doubt have spotted the villa in the recent 007 adventure "Casino Royale".
Additional Sport & Adventure Activities include:
Bike Rentals, Boat Rentals/Charters, Canoeing/Kayaking, Float Plane/Helicopter, Funicular Railway, Park, Public Transportation, Public Villas & Gardens and Rowing Boats.
There are Golf clubs around Lake Como: The Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club is Italy's oldest golf course. Established in 1907 with 18 holes Par 70, it is located above Menaggio near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 20 min. by car. Green Fees: Weekdays €55, Weekends and Holidays €70 Euros; Golf Cart Rental €36.
Restaurant Golf at the club serves fantastic food and is well recommended.. Guests are always welcome, please call beforehand to check course rules. Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como).
This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibilty and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.
There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema, not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.
There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.
The closest major ski resorts are St. Moritz and Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass which is approx.100km.
