Villa Porcospino, or Porcupine House, enjoys a unique position perfect for both those eager to get away from it all and those wanting to discover Umbria’s gastronomic delights and cultural treasures. The villa seems to be lost in the woods and yet it is only 200 m off the road connecting Orvieto and Perugia. The first-floor apartment with an independent entrance has two bedrooms, a bathroom and a cooking/dining/living area with two French doors leading to a huge balcony. Both bedrooms are sun-drenched in the morning and have French doors leading to a second balcony. The balconies semicircle the whole apartment so you can follow the sun round the clock. A well-appointed, good-sized garden with just right mixture of shady and sunny spots for sunbathing and barbeques is entirely at your disposal. The viewpoint from the garden wall overlooking the valley is the envy of our neighbours.

The Umbria region

The Umbria region of Italy has been called "The Green Heart of Italy", due to its central location and equal distance from Rome and Florence. The area is less discovered than its eastern neighbor, Tuscany, but just as magnificent. Umbria is a beautiful, unspoiled, countryside area of rolling, forested hills, vast grassy meadows covered with flowers, large olive grove plantations, and several lakes and valleys. The landscape is dotted with many picturesque medieval villages, and the people of the area are known for their distinctive cuisine, friendliness and hospitality. Like so much of Italy, food, wine, and entertainment are the core of Umbria's charm. A vacation here is a feast of the senses. So, bring your camera, leave your diet at home, and explore this tranquil treasure.

If you are not in the mood for cooking, a local restaurant is just across the road; it is scandalously cheap and boasts wild boar and venison casseroles and other game dishes on the menu all year round. They also serve good pizzas and pasta dishes with fresh truffles.

How to get there

Fly to Rome - Villa Porcospino is an-hour-and-a-half drive from the airport. The alternative is to take a train from Rome to Orvieto (about an hour) and then take a taxi. We highly recommend a car hire.

Please note the apartment is on the 1st floor (which actually becomes 2nd floor due to the house’s position on the hillside) and has no wheelchair access, therefore the holiday is not recommended for elderly people or people with walking difficulties.

The garden is rather old-fashioned and full of beautiful hidden spots. Children will be busy exploring it and grown-ups will love having coffee on the viewpoint terrace watching the sun going down. There is a barbeque area and a table with chairs for outdoor dining.

Heating, hot water and gas charges included in price. Inflatable children’s beds available on request.
Linen and towels are provided and changed on a weekly basis. Apartment is cleaned for arrival and the guests are asked to leave it reasonably clean. The garden is shared with the owners and kids are free to roam; you will have your own BBQ and outdoor dining area.
