The Umbria region

Umbria is in the heart of Italy, not touched by the sea, and the territory is one-third mountains and for the rest hills covered with olive trees and vineyards, and acknowledgedly among the most beautiful landscapes in Italy. It borders with Tuscany, Lazio and Marche.

The territory is suited to agriculture, the main produce being cereals, tobacco, sugar-beet, sunflowers, vineyards; Umbria is also among the first producers in Europe of black truffle. Renowned ceramic production is flourishing in Deruta, Gubbio and Orvieto. Thanks to the temperate climate, the beautiful landscapes and the religious, cultural and artistic wealth of many cities like Assisi, Gubbio, Spoleto, Perugia, tourism is also an important resource.

Orvieto

Orvieto is a city in southwestern Umbria, situated on the flat summit of a large volcanic tufa plateau, above the almost-vertical tufa cliffs and surrounded by walls built of the same stone . This together with the tiled roofs give Orvieto its charming character. Apart from being a lovely way to spend a day walking and discovering, the main sights to see in Orvieto are the Duomo, the etruscan tunnels and caves and the various museums.

Other cities within 1hr30 mins drive and recommended for day trips are Perugia, Assisi and Gubbio within Umbria and Siena, Arezzo, Florence in Tuscany.

"So good we're going back next year!"

What can I say about Casa Bassa? It's a little piece of Heaven! We stayed there during our summer holiday in August 2011 and it gave us everything we wanted from a holiday; peace and quiet in a beautiful setting but close enough to interesting places to visit and sightsee (a car is a must). The farmhouse itself is gorgeous with every mod con catered for as well as beautifully landscaped gardens, balcony terrace (with stunning panoramic views), patios and pool area. It's an hour's drive from Florence and about 1.5 hours from Rome so there are plenty of interesting and wonderful places to visit as well as a local town 10 mins away for buying food and other essentials. Would we go back? Definitely, we booked for 2012 before we left!

"Superb accommodation in idyllic setting"

La Magnolia was the best equipped self catering accommodation we have ever stayed at. One of the most impressive features was the attention that had been given to both the exterior and interior design. So many of the features were quite luxurious. The pool garden(s) and barbeque areas were much enjoyed; the views quite magnificient.
The service provide by the local manager was excellent, all you would expect plus so many additional thoughtful touches.
We would thouroughly recommend this accommodation.
