Home description
Casa Alegria is a blissfully peaceful place, ideal for a holiday retreat. The old farmhouse has been restored to a high standard and offers fully furnished and flexible accommodation. You wil be surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The Sierra del las Estancias is the backdrop to the almond and olive groves in which the house is set. We produce our own organic olive oil and almonds which are available for guests to sample and purchase.
The holiday farmhouse has a private entrance. There are three spacious double bedrooms and a large mezzanine landing. Downstairs a spacious traditional kitchen and comfortable lounge lead to a private terrace for dining outside, a perfect spot to take in the spectacular views. This property offers the peace and tranquillity of a retreat, yet the beaches and stunning Almerian coastline, of renowned natural beauty, are within easy reach. Traditional local fiestas nearby and the famous Alhambra Palace in Granada, less than a two hour drive away, are a couple of the possible treats that await you when visiting this area of ´hidden Spain.`

The Costa de Almeria region
This is a perfect area for nature lovers, birdwatchers, artists, walkers, cyclists and sightseers looking for an experience of ´real`Spain.
The Mediterranean beaches Vera, Mojacar, Garrucha and Aguilas are within easy reach.
Vera Playa has a water park and there are many golf courses in the vicinity.
The Costa de Almeria is home to many empty beaches and tiny hidden coves with perfectly clear water. These wonderful unexplored areas and are well worth experiencing. Because of the diverse landscapes, the range of sports activities is endless from water sports to hiking, paragliding, horse riding and golf.
Glorious drives in the mountains, the nearby Baza dam and lakes (great fishing), hot springs (perfect for picnics and bathing) and a restaurant (overhanging the lake!)
Almeria is home to the German-Spanish Calar Alto Astronomical Observatory is one of the most important observatories of Spain. France's Michelin operates a research centre in Cabo De Gata and in Tabernas there is a solar energy research centre, PSA.
Fabulous selection of restaurants with four course meals for approximately 10 Euros including drinks - menu del dia.
Mini Hollywood Approximately 90minutes drive away, is a theme park and zoo set in the desert landscape of Tabernas. Formally a film set, many well known westerns have been shot here, including The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, 800 Bullets, and A Fistful of Dollars as well as parts of Lawrence of Arabia and Patton. There is also a small museum housing camera equipment, projectors and memorabilia. You can enjoy a cold drink and a snack at the Saloon or take a dip in the pool. There are also a variety of “wild west” snack bars and restaurants on site. A large zoo is also well worth a visit .
Vera Water Park Just 40 minutes drive from Albox you can enjoy day out by the beach in Vera with your family and friends. Have fun on the great water attractions: Kamikaze, multi-slides, black holes, adventure river, tube slides, wave pool, lake pool and for the little ones, the infant pool. Also, in this facility, there is mini-golf, super jumper, mini-park, green zones, and an amusement arcade.
Viva Riva Watersports Villaricos is well known for its crystal clear warm waters and its fabulous diving, and just 40 minutes away, you can see the various undersea wildlife up close with its multilingual school and Padi instructors.

Partaloa offers horse riding.
Velez Rubio and Velez Blanco with prehistoric cave painting, a castle and the wild beauty of the mountainous regions of the Maria´s. Nearer Almeria, Cabo de Gato another renowned nature reserve with wild flamencos.
Baza Lakes with breathtaking scenery, hot springs, restaurants, picnics and bathing and rowing in the lakes.
Nijar with wonderful local and traditional ceramics.
Oria area
Cortijo del Puente is in the hamlet of Barranco Quiles which is a few minutes drive, 5kms, from Oria village. In Oria there are shops including an excellent butcher. There are three banks, bars and restaurants. The Sunday market is held in front of the Basilica Church in the centre of Oria. The village dates back to the time of the Moors. Albox is the nearest town, 30 minutes away with a large traditional market on Tuesdays.
At Easter and at other times throughout the year you can experience the traditional Andalucian processions fiestas and celebrations. Tapas and meu del dia are available locally.
This is a region famous for olive oil, almonds, hamon and a large variety of cold meats.
How to get there
Almeria, Murcia and Granada are spanish airports less than two hours away from the Cortijo. They are well served from most British airports by many budget airlines e.g. EasyJet, Ryanair, Monarch, Avro, bmibaby and avro.

Cars can be rented at reasonable rates through most airline services, comparison sites and at the airport when you arrive in Spain.
We can arrange pickups from train station and airports. The cost will depend on distance and time factors.

Further details indoors: The kitchen/dining area is spacious and well equipped with a dining table that comfortably seats six people. The large private terrace outside has beautiful views and furniture for outdoor dining and there is access to a washing machine and area for drying clothes.
For parties of six a second shower-room, toilet and changing room can be accessed from the second bedroom of the farmhouse which leads to the hot-tub balcony. This is situated above the internal andalucian style courtyard. There is a large garage area now converted to a games room with pool and table-tennis. (See photos.)
There are a selection of DVD´s and CD´s available in addition to area guide books and an information pack.
Fans are provided but due to the traditional structure of the house air-con is not required. All areas are tiled and there are mosquito nets and screens on windows and doors.
The bathroom leads off the landing with a shower over the bath, plus basin, WC and bidet.
The lounge downstairs has comfortable sofas and a large log fireplace for cooler evenings. The sitting room has a TV with sky satellite connection, DVD and sound system.and there is a spacious and well equipped kitchen/dining area. There is a large private outdoor terrace eqipped for outdoor dining and taking in the stunning views. The 12x6m pool which has a salt-water system, solar heating and pool house is secluded and private.
Further details outdoors: The private pool, 12x6m, has solar heating with a salt water, low chlorine system. It has its own poolhouse, toilet, shower, basin and changing facilities. The owners on site and their visitors may use the pool at times. There is a vine covered shaded area, pergola, table and chairs and a double hammock in which to rest and relax. This area is shared by the owners. There is a barbecue area a table- tennis table and pool table available for guests to use.
The sun terrace has uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. It is situated as part of private area in front of the house where there are sunloungers and an umbrella with a table and chairs for dining outdoors, relaxing or reading.
We have fresh eggs available daily from our own chickens. There are two aviaries with peacocks, love-birds, canaries, cockerels and chickens.
The farmhouse is surrounded by our olive and almond trees and you are welcome to explore and participate in olive or almond picking in the Autumn and Winter months. We alsohave a whole variety of seasonal organic fruits and vegetables growing which are available at different times of the year.
Conditions
Children are welcome and it is important to note that this property is not suitable for toddlers or very young children because of the local terrain, steps in the house and hard tiled floors. We have a cot for babies.
We supply a starter welcome pack free of charge and a first days provision pack can be arranged. We also make an extra charge for log fires and radiator use in the winter. Use of the hot-tub is 30 GBP per week.
We request that clients purchase travel insurance.
The accommodation is non-smoking although smokers can smoke outside on the terrace.
Children need to be supervised at all times when in or near the pool. The owner´s on site and their visitors may also have access to the pool
