The original farmhouse is over 100 years old and is reputed to have been partly destroyed by bombing during the civil war. It has been renovated to a high standard keeping the traditional Andalucian style whilst updating the property with high ceilings and large spacious rooms. The large open plan living area has French windows opening onto private terraces - the sheltered entrance terrace captures the rising sun and is a good place to breakfast. The bedrooms, two double and one twin, are large and spacious. The two double bedrooms lead onto a large westerly terrace with stunning mountain views down the Rio Guadelfeo Valley - ideal for sipping an evening aperitif as you watch the sun go down. For those who enjoy star gazing the lack of light pollution in the area produces a magnificent night sky with frequent views of the Milky Way.

The house has a truly beautiful garden, commented on by all guests, with many tropical plants and a lawn which leads down to a large private pool,14m x 5m - open from May to September.

From your door you have direct access to a foot path which links the higher mountain towns should you want the challenge or just a stroll up to view the valleys above. For keen walkers the path takes off at least 10 minutes if you feel like a walk through Tijola to Orgiva.

Special Notes....

The water supply comes from a spring and we recommend buying bottled water for drinking. Water can be obatined at no cost from treated springs in the spa town of Lanjaron. The last kilometre of the track is on an unmade up road. This is passable in a normal car but if you feel you are a nervous or inexperienced driver then you may wish to contact me for more details.

The Andalucia region

The property is situated in the southern foothills of the dramatic Sierra Nevada, an area known as the Alpujarras. Whilst Orgiva stands at just 400m there is easy access to the high rustic white villages such as Capiliara & Trevelez and the many footpaths which lead into the high peaks including Mulhacen the highest mountain in mainland Spain at 3,478m.

With a ready supply of water from the high mountains distributed via the traditional arabic acequia system of irrigation, the Alpujarras is one of the lushest areas of Southern Spain with a wide variety of plants including an abundance of olive, fig, orange and lemon trees at different times of the year.

There is easy access to the coast and the seaside town of Salobrena with its beachfront bars & restaurants is just 45 minutes away.


The local Tijola area of Orgiva, as featured in the book "Driving Over Lemons" is characterised by its traditional orange and lemon trees together with purple and pink bourgainvillea, banana trees and large date palms.

The market town of Orgiva is about 7km away. It has several small but well stocked supermarkets and the market is every Thursday. Typical local food is served at the many bars and several restaurants in the town.

The spa town of lanjaron is 16km away and the picturesque white mountain villages that are popular with walkers, of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira are within 20km and La Taha villages a further 5km east.

There are many activites within easy reach, which include diving on the coast, walking, horseriding, mountain biking or road biking.

However is you want to take life a little easier the light is great for photography, the views are worthy of painting and there is much wildlife to observe such as geckos, ibex and wild birds. The lack of light pollution in the area also produces a magnificent night sky for those who enjoy star gazing.

"About as relaxing as it gets!"
