The location is in a spectacularly green region of southern Spain which is watered by the snows of the Sierra Nevada via ancient Moorish and Roman canals.The farmhouse provides large accommodation and is ideal for family/friends holidays and is suitable for winter lets. The construction allows the house to remain cool even in the hottest months.
The gardens contains olive terraces, bordered by almond, fig and orange trees. There is access to many walks in the countryside, the town and local bars and restaurants. There are spectacular views of the surrounding mountains from most aspects. Easy access by car and a short, safe 20 minute walk into town along a lovely track. The bedrooms are all fully furnished with ample wardrobe space. All bedding is provided and changed on a weekly basis. Quilts are provided for the cooler months. A cot for babies is available together with a high-chair for meals. Electric fans are also provided for the hotter months.
Three of the bedrooms have good mountain or pool views and the fourth has access to a wonderful roof terrace. All of the bedrooms lead off from a landing with balcony.
This is a large country Farmhouse with plenty of space to 'swing a cat'. You can find plenty of places inside and out to get away from the family and friends and have a bit of quality time.
The large first floor terrace off one of the bedrooms is a favourite with guests in the evening to just gaze at the stars, chat and enjoy a glass of wine. Take time to read the 'REVIEWS' of previous renters.

When comparing with other holiday lets, do make real comparisons. This is a genuinely large Farmhouse, not a small 'Cortijo' (cottage) nicely photographed. This is a totally self contained Farmhouse in well keep grounds with the swimming pool and all other facilities, provided just for the clients and not shared with the owner or other guests. You can leave the car at the farmhouse and walk safely into town for a meal or a drink along a quiet country track.
The owners, a retired professional couple, are normally available to you for advice and tips throughout your stay and will normally personally manage all the meeting and greetings. If any of these points are important to you for your holiday, just ensure that you check before you book. The farmhouse is usually well stocked with cooking ingredients left by previous guests and a good 'welcome pack' is provided including: wine, beers, bread, jam, water etc.
A non-returnable deposit of 10% is required (minimum £300) as confirmation of booking with the balance due 8 weeks before arrival. A £300 returnable breakages deposit is required as part of the final payment which will be reimbursed, subject to the villa being left in a satisfactory condition. You are welcome to arrive at any time after 3.00pm with departure at 10.00am
The Andalucia region
Between the highest mountains in Spain and the Mediterranean Sea, Las Alpujarras is one of the most enchanting and beautiful regions in the world. Some call it Las Alpujarras, others La Alpujarra: whichever you prefer, it's a joyous land of sunshine, snowy mountains and some of the most splendid scenery imaginable. From the spectacular 'lunar' terrain and snow-capped peaks (which rise above 10,000 feet), the mountain range of the Sierra Nevada slopes southwards, traversed by deep, wooded river gorges and truly wonderful countryside.
The region of mountain villages known as Las Alpujarras clings to the southern flanks of the Sierra Nevada, cloven by deep, sheltered valleys and gorges which run down towards the Mediterranean. The Alpujarra, as it is popularly known, in the singular, is famous throughout Spain because of its unique mini-ecology. Its terraced farmlands are constantly watered by the melting snow from above, constituting a high-altitude oasis of greenery which stands in dramatic contrast to the arid foothills below.
The Alpujarra is also famous for its excellent birdwatching - the colourful Hoopoe with its stark, haunting cry, is a common sight. The capital of the region is Órgiva, on the lowlands, and the village of Trevélez - famous throughout Spain for its superb mountain hams, or jamón serrano - is, at over 4,840 feet above sea level, the highest village in Europe, overhanging a fast-flowing river and plunging mountain valley.
One of the many great travel books written about Spain is devoted to the Alpujarra - Gerald Brenan´s "South From Granada", which recounts the adventures of a young Britisher who, after serving in World War I, walked through Andalucia in search of a cheap place to live and write. He discovered the tiny village of Yégen, where he rebuilt a ruined house (now marked with a plaque in his memory) and lodged some of his friends of the famous Bloomsbury group of London. In his book - written in retrospect, long after he became a well-known journalist - Brenan describes the difficulties of getting such highly-strung aesthetes as Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey up the river gorges on mule back, as well as his bucolic existence among the local peasants.
Whilst not being a large town, Orgiva the capital of the Alpujarra holds a weekly market in the town. There are many tapas bars, good restaurants and small supermarkets. There are also 2 health food shops and a herbalist pharmacy. Enjoying many fiestas throughout the year, this is very much a Spanish town. Within 30 minutes you can be in one of the beautiful 'white mountain villages' of the Alpujarras or sitting on a quiet beach on the Mediterranean. Visit the fascinating city of Granada with its spectacular Alhambra Palace, and the old Moorish quarters of the Albaicin. Shop in the town centre or just enjoy the hustle and bustle of the street restaurants and cafes in this ancient student town. Just 30 min away are the relaxing beaches of the Costa Tropical. The white villages built by the Moors have a charm and style unique to this area. Spend the day visiting different villages and discovering some of the local crafts, still practised in the region. "Nice property in fantastic setting"
This property is on the edge of Orgiva, itself a rather uninspiring place with seemingly a large British hippy drop out community. However you're on the edge of the Sierra Nevada with wonderful views from the property. It's possible to walk into Orgiva bypassing the main road which is a real bonus. Also good is the food which can be harvested from the villa's own garden - oranges, grapes, almonds, pomegranates and figs, we are them all.
The property is large and mainly comfortable but would be improved by new beds, new exterior furniture and new sun beds. There is also a shortage of coffee mugs and glasses suitable for beer. Also useful would be if the large number of keys required for the various gates and doors were colour coded. These things can all be easily fixed however and apart from these issues this property is a great place for a holiday and is recommended.

We had a wonderful stay in the farmhouse. The owners were really helpful and friendly with great tips on making the best of our holiday. The house was even more spacious than we expected from the photos, particularly the downstairs living area where there are even 3 couches which were all perfect for a siesta in the afternoon. We ate outside for dinner most nights enjoying the beautiful views of the mountains. The large inside dining area was also really good and the big kitchen very well equipped. The pool was always cool and on really hot days, we were able to enjoy the shade provided by the olive trees. Though there is no WiFi/Internet, we were able to easily use the free WiFi in the local cafe/bars.
The location is nicely removed from the main tourist areas but you are still only about 45 minutes from Granada and the coast. Orgiva itself is easily accessible with loads of lovely bars and cafes with friendly and very helpful staff. The surrounding villages are also really worth a visit.
We really had a wonderful holiday and would happily go back if we had the chance.

"Excellent stay in rural Spain"
Fantastic Place to stay. Can't recommend it enough. My sister booked the house and it proved to be a great traditional spanish house with it's own pool. The local town of Orgiva is very nice and your only about 25 mins drive from the sea and about an hours drive from Granada.
The living space is very good as there is a large kitchen and a very large living room great for the large party of 8 that we had there. The bedrooms are also good and the beds were comfortable.
The owner Graham met us on the first day and gave us a guided tour of the house and recommended local shops and restaurants and this proved invaluable during the stay. There was also a gas barbie which we used almost every day and at the time we went there were no mosquitos which was also good.
I would recommend for a family, or large group of friends.
So glad you enjoyed your stay. You were all model guests and left the Farhmouse spotless and you were also great in keeping the pool looking wonderful, many thanks. G&F

"Perfect in every way"
We hired the Cortijo as a family group, 4 adults/2 children (13 & 9). We searched the internet for properties, in Italy, France & Spain, & identified this property as the most suitable for the groups requirements. We were not disapointed in our choice and the property lived up to our expectations.
The Cortijo is reached via motorway & good condtion roads from Malaga and Granada and set in a valley within the mountains near Orgiva, a small Spanish town with good facilities. The property is situated near to the main road into Orgiva, traffic is light, which made access easy and with the grounds and pool to the rear did not impact on our enjoyment. A car is a must to enjoy the area to its best.
The Cortijo is extremley well proportioned with excellent accomodation and equipment. The downstairs areas, Kitchen/Dining Room, lobbies, Sitting/TV Areas are very roomy, well equiped and kept cool in the day. The dishwasher & washing machine were used daily. The TV/DVD player were a hit with the children when they wanted time out of the sun. The bedrooms are a good size with good storage/hanging space. The provision of electric fans are a bonus for the warm nights. Having the 2 bathrooms, both of a high standard, made life easier. All windows had fitted mosquito grills.
The outside areas are great. The pool was well used & the children were excited by both the size and depth, both good swimmers who love to dive, jump and just swim and play. The adults also enjoyed the pool and were able to relax on the sunbeds provided. The pool has sun all day and the areas of dappled shade provided by the olive trees when the sun was at its height was much appreciated, as were the provided umbrellas. The gardens/grounds are ample & we tended to move the smaller outdoor table to varying position within the grounds to eat at lunchtimes with perfect views of the mountains. In the evening some time was spent laying on the upper terrace star gazing. This terrace was also used in the evenings for games with the children and cards. Whilst some of the party were happy to relax and potter around the accomodation, others were very pleased with the various excursions they were able to make with ease to Granada, local beach, Nerja Caves and Donkey Sanctuary, the White Villages and also to go horse riding. A late afternoon stroll down the track to the river was also enjoyed by all. We mainly self catered, however, did walk into Orgiva on 3 to 4 occassions to enjoy drinks, tapas and ice creams. Local market had excellent fruit and vegetables. We preferred the smaller supermarket with meat, vegatables and other counters at the rear.
Graham and Fiona are excellent owners - unobtrusive yet available.

"Excellente adresse à recommander"
Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour à "Farmhouse" à la fois pour son emplacement géographique, le charme de la maison, ainsi que pour la qualité des prestations.
C'est un point de départ idéal pour aussi bien vister Grenade que pour les baignades en mer ou les randonnées en montagne. Les plus courageux d'entre nous ont été très fiers d'avoir été au sommet du Mulhacen (3480m). Nous avions également réservé quelques jours de farnienté pour profiter de la maison que les propriétaires ont restaurée. Ils ont su apporter à cette ancienne ferme tout le confort nécessaire à des vacanciers tout en conservant l'authenticité du lieu. La maison est entourée d'un vaste jardin garni de fleurs et d'arbres fruitiers. On se croirait seul au monde alors que l'on est à 20mn à pied seulement du centre d'Orgiva. La piscine est au milieu des oliviers et depuis votre transat vous pouvez admirer la montagne.
Nous étions deux couples avec 3 grands ados et un enfant; tout le monde a été enchanté du séjour.

"“PARADISE BUT WITH REAL CHARACTER”! You will NOT be disappointed!"
La Granja De Olivos is a FANTASTIC holiday accommodation set in a beautiful unspoilt part of Andalusia very close to the village, Orgiva. The house, pool and gardens were ideal with plenty of space. I am sure some other owners would have tried to rent it out as sleeping 16 and bumping up the price. We enjoyed the spacious areas where we had BBQs, gazed at the stars, dozed on the hammock, sunbathed, swam, slept and had a few drinks along the way! We had excellent trips out to other nearby villages including Lanjaron and also to the highest village in mainland Spain, Trevelez. Due to our unavoidable late booking we could only get the one week. The owners were very welcoming and had provided us with very useful information prior to our departure from home, a great idea – rental companies etc should follow this example! Everything was as described in the listing. Our second week near Comares was ok but poor in comparison to the very high standard of our week at La Granja De Olivos. A difficult act to follow. We would love to return and thoroughly recommend it to those wanting to sample the real Spain with excellent accommodation!
