Dovepoint Cottage is named after a point in the river which can just be glimpsed from the children's bedroom. Built in 1878 by Sir Richard Wallace (Wallace Collection) the owner of the Sudbourne Estate which surrounds Orford, the cottage is one of a row of 4 terraced cottages facing the church. With offstreet parking for one or two cars, access is via a private drive to the side of the cottages. There is a charming quiet garden with table and chairs, ideal for a summer lunch.

A hidden gem on the Suffolk coast, Orford is a delightful spot for a weekend break or a week or two. Spend your days going round the Castle, visiting the RSPB's Havergate Island, touring the National Trust's Orfordness, a river trip on Lady Florence or a local fishing boat. Buy fresh fish or lobster from the Brinkley's shed on the shoreline. Children love crabbing from the quay. There are great walks along the 'seawall' - the river bank up towards Aldeburgh or towards the sea. The award winning Bakery produces amazing cakes and loaves, just 50 yards from the Cottage. The village is a gastronomic delight with Pinney's Smoked Fish at the Quay and their restaurant the Butley Oysterage, Ruth Watson's hotel The Crown and Castle has a spectacular restaurant. The village pubs, the Kings Head and The Jolly Sailor are also excellent, both within 200 yards from the front door. The local village store and the butcher supply everything you need, and even has a coffee shop.

"The perfect holiday cottage"

Dovepoint cottage is opposite the church in Orford and is well situated for the bakery, village store , 2 pubs , Butley Oystery and The Crown & Castle hotel. Plus you have Orford Castle and Orford Ness to visit. Plenty to keep you busy.
The cottage provides everything you need for a stress free holiday and a plus point for us, the master bedroom had a comfortable bed . A rarity in holiday lets !
We immediately felt relaxed at the property which was tastefully decorated but not pretentious and a real bonus for us, the cottage is dog friendly.
We will be back to stay here very soon .

"Ideal Location with the best a village can offer in eating out, nearby beach, and local walks."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and couldn't have asked for anything better. I would recommend to anyone, either with or without children. The beach walks were wonderful, and the nearby Castle was amazing. Plenty to do nearby. Coming home to a lovely fire in the evening, a sparkling clean home with games and dvd's for the whole family to enjoy. The local amenities were so welcoming and we really made our mark on the local pub. Close by to other villages for short day trips out was just perfect. We would happily return again. We loved every day there and one week felt like 2-3 we have never felt so relaxed and ready to return to work after what has been a very hectic year. Thank for you opeing up your home to us. We felt very at home and welcome.
