The Tasmania region
Tasmania; an island so special, so pristine and so beautiful. Home of the last great temperate wilderness on the Planet, Tasmania also has some very elusive secrets; one of them being the sunny East Coast; the Sun Coast of Tasmania! On the little known lower East Coast, you will discover pristine white beaches, coastal forests and stunning scenery. Spring Beach, which is directly opposite the Ntional Park Island of Maria Island is a very special hidden enclave, next to the pretty river side village of Orford. From here you can take a day trip to Swansea, Coles Bay and the more well known areas of the East Coast.
Explore the area
Spring Beach and Stapleton Beach are exclusive beachside enclaves to the South of Orford. Sparkling fine white sand, turquoise sea, spectacular sandstone cliff faces and a dramatic backdrop of Maria Island provide a unique Tasmania East Coast experience to the Australian and International visitor. The beaches are never crowded; in fact one hardly ever sees more than a handful of people on these magnificent beaches. If you seek serenity, peace and quiet away from the madding crowd; then this is the location for you.
Get in touch with the environment and explore the many coastal walking and bike paths around the area. A local walking group have produced a booklet of short walking trails in the immediate area and this is in the information basket at 'Seadragon' for you to read. It is an absolute delight to discover the local flora and fauna that abounds in this area; creatures and plants that you will not come across anywhere else on the planet but Tasmania; one such example is the endemic species the forty-spotted Pardelote [elusive, but seen in our own native garden]
INDULGE YOUR SENSES
TASTE the produce that Tasmania has to offer, drink the fine wines produced locally.Taste the beautifully clear rainwater that we collect in our 3 large rain water tanks. SMELL the pure sea air, the salty tang of misty mornings. LISTEN to the sounds of the kookaburras, the eastern rosellas, the swift parrots, the possums, quolls and wallaby snufflings. SEE and experience all that the East Coast has to offer by exploring beyond
Seadragon to Swansea, Bicheno, Coles Bay and the Freycinet Peninsula. Catch a ferry from Triabunna [20 minutes away] to Maria Island National Park and lose yourself in history, wilderness and unique habitat.
We provide a wealth of written information at Seadragon, but we suggest you read up on this special part of Australia beore you leave home so you can [try and] plan your stay as you may never really wish to go beyond Seadragon itself.
The closest local amenities are at Orford, a 10 minute drive. There you will find a small supermarket which aso stocks local and Tasmanian produce; try the range of gourmet meats, sausages, cheeses, yoghurts etc. which we highly recommend...you can even get a cooked free range chicken for dinner. There is also a licensed cafe [yummy cakes, pies etc], a wood fired pizza restaurant and take away, a post office/newsagency, a hotel/bottle shop and roadhouse/petrol station There are a few slips to launch your boat from; the Prosser River and coves of Spring Bay also provide excellent kayaking.
SCUBA DIVING Seadragon is the perfect place to base yourself to experience some of Tasmania's spectacular East Coast diving; from Eaglehawk Neck's kelp forests and caves to Bicheno's gulllies. Shorediving from any of the East Coast beaches is excellent; boat dive Maria Island's Marine Reserves and Isle de Phoques sea caves. See our website for more details.

"A perfect place to recharge your batteries"
Seadragon has an idyllic, tranquil setting with beautiful grounds and a spectacular sea view. I could have just stayed on the decking for my entire break, watching the bird life, the changing sea views and the weather. The property is very well maintained, clean and comfortable. The kitchen's amenities are above standard and scored highly in comparison with other properties i have stayed in! Spring beach is well worth a visit. As is the coffee shop in Orford, their food is superb. There are many beautiful walks near by and the wild life will not disappoint. If you like a place to recharge yourself....then this is it ;)

In January I had the good luck to spend 5 days at Seadragon in Spring Beach, Tasmania. For many reasons this is one of the best properties that I have stayed at. The property is one and a half acres of beautiful native garden situated next to a tall Karri forest. The animal and bird life is abundant with birds constantly visiting the deck railings while you sit nearby. The large deck is situated right across the front of the house and looks directly out onto Maria Is. It is breathtakingly beautiful. Breakfast each morning on the deck in the sun was fantastic. The house is beautifully appointed with quality linen and furnishings. Spring Beach is a crecent of lovely clean white sand and crystal clear water. Great for walking.
