The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

This stretch of the Turkish coastline is known as the Turkish Riviera or Turquoise Coast. The area around Fethiye is one of Turkeys most beautiful, offering a perfect mix of beach resorts, mountain scenery and small rural villages. Lycia is the historical name of the Teke peninsula, which cuts into the Mediterranean on Turkey's southern coast giving an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. The mountains rise steeply from the wooded shore and tiny bays, giving beautiful views and varied walking. The Lycians absorbed Greek culture, and were later conquered by the Romans, the Lycian Way starts here and is one of the worlds most famous walks, it follows the coast for 509km and ends in Antalya. Probably for serious walkers only, but offers some fabulous views of the coastline and the opportunity to see some of the real Turkey.
Saklikent is 50 km away from Fethiye and is a natural gorge, 18km long and reaches 600m in places. It is a unique place to visit, where the ice cold water comes down from the mountains, with mountaineering, trekking, rafting and swimming possible.
Yakapark is near Saklikent where you can sample the local trout in tranquil surroundings. The restaurant area is shaded by ancient trees with small rivers and springs cooling the air around you.
Tlos is 45km away from Fethiye and is one of the principal cities of the Lycian Federal Union. It was founded around 2000 B.C. there are ruins of a castle on top of the acropolis, remains of a Roman gymnasium, baths and a large theatre with many detailed carvings. Other Lycian cities are Pinara and Cadianda.
The Dalaman River begins in the Kocas Mountain and is 229 km long, alongside the river are the famous mud baths where you can cover yourselves with mud and let it dry in the sun. Further up the river you can go rafting and where the river meets the sea is Turtle beach, which is a protected area for the nesting turtles.
If you wish to go further afield you can visit Pamukkale & Ephesus reputed to be the 8th wonder of the world, it is a 2 day trip but well worth it.
The Olu Deniz area
Olu Deniz used to be three separate villages, Ovacik, Hisaronu and Belcekiz, and covers an extensive and varied terrain, separated by hills and woods, thus catering for all tastes. The villa is in Ovacik which nestles below the Babadag Mountain, Ovacik means " little plain " and is caressed by cool sea breezes which provide some relief from the hot summer sun. It commands fine mountain views and if you have an early holiday you might still see some snow on top of the mountain.
The famous Olu Deniz beach with its stunning blue lagoon is renowned as the most beautiful beach in Turkey, the warm sea is a turquoise blue and just invites you in. It is only a short bus ride away by Dolmus from the villa, its a fantastic service, they are cheap and run every few minutes in the high season. The lagoon and surrounding area is in a conservation area so no high rise hotels, and is probably the most photographed beach in Turkey. The lagoon is like a large lake, very calm, ideal for children with its gently shelving waters, it is surrounded by a few beach restaurants so no need to go too far for refreshments.
On the main part of the beach you will find many small shops, eating places and bars, in the evening the bars offer a variety of different music and entertainment.
Olu Deniz has become something of a Mecca for paragliding, and enthusiasts come from all over the world to take part in the sport. Towards the end of the season, usually around October there is a big paragliding competition, which is worth seeing as there are numerous para gliders in the air at one time. It is possible for anyone to take a tandem flight with an experienced pilot from the top of Babadag mountain, landing on the beach at Olu Deniz, an experience not to be missed.
Fethiye is about 10 mins away from the villa by bus and is a mixture of market town, port and holiday resort. On the hill above Fethiye is a castle built for the Knights of Saint John and there are 2 simple rock tombs on the eastern face of the hill. By the harbour is Telmessos Antic Theatre constructed in the roman period and had a capacity for seating 5000, it was discovered in1993 and concerts for about 1500 people are held in the summer months. Every Tuesday there is a huge open air market near the marina selling everything from clothes, shoes, household goods, gifts and food. I think it has the largest fruit and veg market I have seen, and everything is very fresh. The harbour and marina is bordered by palm tree lined promenades and back streets filled with shops, bars and restaurants, yeilding bargains, gastronomic delights and bustling night life.
The fish market is well worth a visit, buy your fish and one of the small restaurants will cook it for you with salad and everything to accompany it. Next to the Fish market is a small fruit and veg market, open every day, if you want fresh produce at a good price.
Ovacik is a quieter village, up in the hills above Fethiye, but the villa is only a few minutes walk from local bars, restaurants and small supermarkets, a lot of the restaurants now provide evening entertainment so you don't have to go far for a great evening, the villa is ideally situated between Olu Deniz beach and the main town of Fethiye. On the main road only a few minutes walk away there is a new Turkish Bath, a couple of Barber shops for the men, and a local beauty salon for the ladies. For a much livelier resort you can walk into Hisaronu with its wide choice of shops, restaurants, late night bars and entertainment, they also have a market every monday. Near to Hisaronu is the deserted village of Kayakoy which was a Greek settlement founded at the beginning of the 14th century. It was evacuated during the Turkish-Greek war of 1919-1923 hence it's nickname of The Ghost Town. Its well worth a visit and the more energetic of you can walk there through the pine forests, they have started to renovate some of the buildings and there are a few nice restaurants down there if you wish to eat in peaceful surroundings.
There are many local activities, they include paragliding from Babadag Mountain, people come from all over the world to glide over the turquoise waters of the lagoon from atop of the mountain, river rafting, water-ski-ing, scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing & yatching, mountaineering and horse riding, plus visits to various interesting Greek and Roman archaeological sites, and the famous ' Butterfly Valley ' .For walkers you can join the famous Lycian way in Hisaronu, it is 509km long and ends in Antalya, a chance to see some of the real Turkey with beautiful views over the commanding coastline. For those of you who enjoy boat trips, you can catch them from the main beach at Olu Deniz or Fethyie harbour, a popular one is the 12 - island boat trip, most of them go out all day, include lunch and plenty of stops for swimming and snorkelling.
A great activity for kids is a NEW AQUAPARK only 5 to 10 mins walk away from the villa towards Fethiye.

We were met at the airport and transfered in comfort to the villa without a hitch. The villa was welcoming, clean and comfortable and the air conditioning a blessing for tired hot travellers. The villa is situated in secluded countryside, with a view of mountains to one side. The owners have done everything they can to ensure your stay is like home from home with the addition of a separate games room, stunning pool and childrens pool, and plenty of sun beds. Getting around is no problem even if you do not hire a car. There are bus stops at the end of the lane with a great bus service and the villa has it's own phone so calling a cab is no problem. They are alway prompt and reasonably priced. Takeaways can be delivered, as can groceries and drinking water. Everything is made easy which enables holiday guests to relax and enjoy themselves whatever their age. There are many bars and good restaurants within walking distance and sightseeing trips are easy to arrange and are worthwhile as there are many beautiful and interesting places to visit nearby. Icannot recommend Villa Suzie and this area of turkey enough. I have been going back there for several years now, just with my wife and with larger groups of family and friends. My daughter had her wedding there in 2008 and everything was perfect, the weather, the venue, and the price. All I can say is go there and see. |

Our stay at Villa Suzie was very enjoyable. The villa is ideally located, short walk to local shops, bars & restraunts, but not too close that there was any issues with noise. The beach is a 10 minute cab journey with a beautiful lagoon. The villa itself is to a high standard, very clean, great pool, games room & lovely gardens & views. Our stay was for 14 nights & transfers to & from the airport were organised for a reasonable charge. There is a linen change after 1 week, fresh bedding & towels. There is also a manager you can contact who is english speaking & available 24/7 if you have any concerns or problems.. |

This was our first holiday to Turkey so I was a little sceptical as to what awaited us, I'd always been so used to Spain so, Turkey was a real new one for me and my family. Once we arrived at Villa Suzie we were totally blown away with the place, a well designed Villa and nicely decorated throughout with everything you need for a family holiday, The games room was brilliant, we had plenty of Table Tennis and Pool competitions and the kids loved it, being tucked away downstairs they can make as much noise as they wanted and wasn't bothering anyone! The Swimming Pool was wonderful and so too is the seating area around it, from about 9.00am every morning you had the sun on the Pool area for the entire day and well into the evening, perfect for those holiday BBQ'S! In total we had 17 days at the Villa and can't say we had a bad meal out once, the food was good in all restaurants we visited, I'd reccomend the "Rockpool" which is down the end of the track and turn right past the taxi rank and it's 100yds on the left hand side, there is a private enclosed play area inside just for kids and also a Nintendo Wii, so perfect for familys with a wide range in age difference like ours. The staff in every restaurant we visted were lovely and really made a fuss of the children so too did everybody else you bump into along your travels. We loved our holiday so much we've already booked up to go back next year, to Villa Suzie! Happy Holidays!!! |

This was my first trip to Turkey, so really didn't know what to expect. On arriving at the airport we were promptly met and transported to the villa, which is up in the hills. It was gorgeous, very clean and new and when there was the calling for prayer it seemed to float up to us, I found it so peaceful. It was very easy to contact the english couple who look after the villa and the local tour guides, who would pick us up and drop us back after any trips. It was my 40th birthday out there and Sue arranged for a chef to come and cook a special dinner for us while we sat on the terrace in the evening. Olu Deniz is a very innocent place that is only just starting to realise the tourism prospect which I found very endearing, I will definitely be using Sue's villa again and highly recommend it.

Wanted to say how impressed all our family was with Villa Suzie whilst we had our holiday this year, perfect for families with young ones !! We got married in Olu Deniz while staying at the villa, it was great, as its so big we could have our family with us. Getting married in Turkey was beautiful, all our guests were impressed, the location was stunning with great food, good entertainment ( belly dancer ) and a delicious hand made cake. It was perfect and a lot more affordable than in the UK. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend getting married in Turkey and also a big thankyou to Sue ( the owner ) who makes a very conscientious effort to make your stay personel, stress free and homely.
Had a fabulous time.

We had the most fantastic time in your villa, it was just perfect. The kitchen was so well equipped, better than my one at home! The games room was a huge hit with the children, the pool area and garden were beautiful, and we loved looking over the paddock area to watch the goats grazing. The situation of the villa was just right, off the beaten track but still handy to everything. We also loved Turkey, the people we thought were genuinely friendly, thought it was reasonable to eat out, did some lovely trips and would definitely want to visit again. We are so glad that we chose your villa to stay at and will thoroughly recommend it.

Enjoyed the holiday immensely, all the little extras made it a home from home, this is our 3rd villa and by far the best. Location brilliant, far enough away from hustle, private, near the bus route, lots of greenery around with a resident family of woodpeckers. Loved the water cooler, the air con and the fact there was info on pizza and grocery delivery. Have already recommended you, can't speak highly enough, thanks for the effort you have obviously put in.

Hartlepool - June 2009
The location of the villa is fantastic, far enough away for peace and quiet but close enough to walk to local bars and shops etc, and easy to catch taxies or the dolmus to Hisaronu or the beach. The pool is a great size and the games room which is fab, kept the kids entertained the whole holiday. Usually after 2 weeks on holiday I am ready to come home but can honestly say that everyone could easily have stayed another week. We are seriously thinking about when we can all get together again to return to villa Suzie. We found Karen very helpful and she was always happy to help with any queries, she arranged a few trips/nights out for us and our transfers went very smoothly.

My wife now wants us to buy a villa in the same location but until that happens we would definitely look at returning again. My wifes parents came with us and it was their first overseas holiday and they absolutely loved every bit of it, and are looking at returning again next year with their friends.

We all enjoyed our holiday and thought the Villa was great, we particularly loved the pool and the outside area, as plenty of space to sit in the shade and enjoy the cool breeze, which my mum and I loved.
