It has been tastefully renovated to provide charming and comfortable accommodation and retains many original features. The farmhouse exudes an ambience of tranquility and warmth. Unique features include original artwork, vintage chandeliers and candelabra, antique beds and wardrobes. The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Pyrenees Atlantiques region

This spectacularly beautiful area of France offers ideal relaxation or alternatively great activity holidays for all. Choose from days out to the beautiful seaside resorts of the South Atlantic coast, amazing mountain scenery of the Pyrenees or easily pop over to Northern Spain for extra shopping or sightseeing. This is a truly remarkable region with unspoilt sleepy French villages, beautiful wide fishing rivers and wonderful cuisine to read all tastes and pockets.

Summer in this region is usually hot with balmy summer nights during which you can prolong your evening alfresco dining, then watch the myriad of bright stars appear in the clear night skies.

Driving in this area is generally stress free and an absolute pleasure compared to other regions and countries. Traffic jams are almost non-existent, the roads have a low density of traffic and the surrounding scenery is a joy to perceive.

Both the Basque and the Bearnaise people are renowned for pride in their culture and this is reflected in the clean, pretty and well-kept towns and villages and their warm hospitality.

Places of interest include,
- The charming, historic city of Pau
- The Pyrenees National Park
- The buzzy seaside resorts of BIARRITZ, ST JEAN DE LUZ, SAN SEBASTIEN etc.
- North West SPAIN
- LOURDES
- Pilgrim town of ST JEAN PIED DE PORT
- There are many great days out to be had for example, white-water rafting on one of the many local rivers, horse-riding is nearby, fishing is very cheap compared to many other countries, gorge walking and there are many local walking and cycling routes, or alternatively just relax and enjoy the local gastronomic delights.

Oloron-Sainte-Marie / Barcus area

Barcus (approx. 5 kms away) is a small pretty village which has three restaurants and a small selection of shops. The road from the farmhouse is particularly scenic.

Hopital St. Blaise (approx. 5 kms away) is a small hamlet providing two typically French restaurants which both have alfresco dining for those warm summer nights. Visit the 12th century Romanesque church with its treasure of Romanesque architecture which was listed as a UNESCO world heritage monument in 1998.

The drive from Barcus to Tardets through small country roads with its absolutely stunning views is worth braving the occasional flock of sheep or herd of cows for. On the way you will see directions for La Madeleine which has amazing panoramic views across to Spain.

The ancient fortified town of Navarrenx on the banks of the Gave Oloron is just ten minutes drive away. This charming small town has banks, many small shops and restaurants. The beautiful river has played host to the world championship salmon fishing competition so you could try your hand at trying to catch fresh salmon, brown, rainbow or sea trout here.

Oloron-Sainte-Marie is a charming market town which is divided by the Gave d'Oloron. It houses the church of Notre-Dame and Place de la Reistance which are worth strolling around and maybe sitting outside one of the cafes in the sunshine. It has quite a few large supermarkets and the Lindt factory shop from which you can buy the wonderful Lindt chocolates at irresistible prices. The Friday morning market is not be missed with its wide selection of local produce. Oloron has many sporting activities including white water rafting and a waterpark (Aquabearn).

The charming city of Pau with its castle, stunning views of mountains from the Boulevard de Pyrenees, beautiful parks, vibrant cafes and chic shops. Pau has the oldest known golf course in Europe, horse racing course, and holds a four star horse show in October each year and also a vintage grand prix held each May.
