Home description
This lovely terraced gite, one of 5 similar ones, overlooks the swimming pool of a former wealthy wine-producer and trader's house in Olonzac, the 'capital' of the Minervois wine-producing region. The owners have thought about everything to make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable.
Ideal perhaps for a honeymoon, a wedding anniversary, a romantic holiday for 2 or house-hunting in the area, the gites were converted from the stables & staff quarters of the old house. They comprise a comfortable living-room & galley-style kitchenette on the ground floor, and a spacious bedroom and shower room on the 1st floor. They each have a small gravelled terrace outside with table & chairs, and further tables and chairs are available for you to use in the large garden. The municipal park next door was once part of the garden but now provides a pleasant place to stroll.
The property has a lovely, large swimming pool in the garden and for the 2009 season will have a brand new outdoor spa pool/jacuzzi for relaxing in after a day's sightseeing.
Situated in the lively town of Olonzac which has shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and a Tuesday morning colourful market - all just a few steps away. Despite being in the town, the garden location is both enchanting and calm.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region
This part of the Languedoc has a sunny Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.
Olonzac area
The town of Olonzac is the 'capital' of the Minervois region and well-serviced with shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants - it's lively in summer and has its own festival in August. You can play tennis locally. At Lac du Jouarres, a short drive or bike ride away, you'll find a beach, swimming, wind-surfing and fishing. It's a great area for cycling with many interesting villages and the Canal du Midi close by.
Olonzac has a lively festival in August with street markets, festivities and live music in the park. Please enquire for the dates.
Olonzac's a great base for exploring the Minervois & wine-lovers will find many local chateaux and 'domaines' offering wine-tasting and direct sale of wine and olive-oil. Whilst here you can also visit the ancient city of Minerve, the medieval city of Carcassonne, Narbonne with its Archbishop's palace, cathedral and indoor market, Beziers and its staircase of 9 locks on the Canal du Midi at Fontseranes, the abbeys of Fontfroide and Lagrasse and the beach resorts of Narbonne- and Gruissan-Plage.
There are some good restaurants in Olonzac and the surrounding villages.
