The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Valencia Province region
The city of Oliva Spain lies just in the north of the Costa Blanca area. About 10 km away from Gandia, Oliva has a population of about 20 000 people. With large orange tree plants around, Oliva becomes famous to Spanish tourists in summer, as many people from Madrid have there summer houses and villas around the area. So whilst you might be around the area of Gandia and Oliva, get to see the old downtown part of Oliva. It takes a little to cross the noisy national road just cutting the entire city, but you will get a wonderful overview over the church of Sant Roc which was a former mosque. For those of you, who like to play golf, you should have a look at the Oliva nova golf course just 6km south of the city along the coast. The place with a wonderful Oliva hotel and Oliva apartments is just like a resort and one of the best places to retire, by the way.
Local attractions Located within a 15-20 minute drive of the Spanish towns of Denia, Pego, Oliva and Javea. Valencia city is well worth a day trip and is 1 hours drive away, or 40 minutes on the train (4.35 E return ticket, 2 per hour, last train back 11pm). All local towns & villages have a weekly outdoor market which gives an insight into Spanish life. Other local attractions include miles of beautiful quiet Blue Flag sandy beaches, Vergel Safari Park, Benidorm theme parks, donkey sanctuary, quad biking, an outdoor Go Karting circuit and 4 golf courses. Within 10 minutes are 2 four star hotels with health spas. Denia is the nearest sizeable town and has good boutique style shops, pavement cafes, a promenade stretching for miles dotted with waterfront restaurants and a large marina. There is a small ski resort 2 hours away.
Eating in and out The local area is mainly Spanish so there is a wide choice of restaurant. Expect to pay 10e per head for a set 3 course lunch with wine, 25e per head for something more formal a la carte. The guide lists the most popular ones and there are 2 or 3 which guests consistently rate. Don't worry if you can't speak spanish as the menus are quite simple to understand. It is quite acceptable to take babies & small children to restaurants, even at night, in fact you will probably get better service as the Spanish love children. The house is well equipped for cooking having a bbq, microwave, dishwasher, professional knives, big fridge and good quality pans & oven dishes. Takeaway food is surprisingly popular in Spain & within 15 minutes drive is an indian takeaway, really good pizza one, lots of chinese and a fabulous wood fired barbecued chicken restaurant. Valencia wine is very good & 1e per litre at the local cooperative.
Taxi service I am happy to arrange a taxi service to take you to some of the many superb local restaurants. Additionally, if possible a hire car can be delivered to the house and an airport pickup can be arranged. The location is a good base for property seekers and impartial advice can be offered.
Oliva Nova area
Local Beaches Facilities within the Oliva Nova Resort should keep everyone amused. Protected by the unspoilt sandy dunes, the beach is just a 5 minute walk or 2 minute drive away - you can enjoy 10km of fine golden sand, with cleanliness recognised by the EU blue flags. It is swept everyday gently shelving into the sea therefore ideal for families. It is also a very popular area for kite and wind surfers during the summer months. A variety of Spanish beach bars are open from May to the end of September. Within the resort is a children’s playground, during the school holidays, the hotel runs a children’s club. The 32nd Americas Cup was held in Valencia during 2007, Oliva is conveniently close for our customers to enjoy the festivities but also provides a quiet retreat away from Spain's third largest city during this time. Also the European Formula 1 race is held in Valncia in august, is a street circuit next to the Mediterranean sea in the port area
Hotel and Spa The Hotel boasts a fantastic Spa, known as the 'Body Love' centre, it has an indoor swimming pool, with Jacuzzi area, a Turkish Bath, Lemon scented bath, Mixed and Ladies Sauna's, Gymnasium and Relaxation Room. They also offer an extensive range of beauty treatments, including manicures, pedicures, waxing, relaxing body packs, Hydrotherapy treatments and various types of massage. The Hotel also has two bars, the main Hotel bar and also the Shamrock bar, two very good restaurants one of which the 'Oliva' offers a fine dining experience not to be missed. Within the grounds of the Resort, you have the two further bars, both which serve food, hairdressers, supermarket, patisserie, medical centre and a bank, all these are within a 5 minute walk of the bungalow.
Golfing Holidays The Golf Course at Oliva Nova is a 18 hole, par 72, PGA approved. Designed by Seve Ballesterous it hosts the qualifying rounds of the European PGA Tour. It is made up of 4 par 3's, 4 par 5's and 10 par 4's. Teeing off times can be arranged on request. There is another PGA gold course, within 20 minutes of Oliva, at La Sella, therefore giving Golfers the option of playing two good quality courses.
How to get there
The property is situated amongst tendered gardens and orange groves. A 10 minute walk past the golf course, and olive and lemon groves, will take you to the protected unspoilt beaches and sand dunes. It is located approx half way between Valencia and Alicante Airport, both of which are approximately an hours drive away. Within 5 mins drive is the nearest historic town of Oliva, where a typical Spanish town and way of life can be enjoyed. Nearby is Denia where the port serves daily crossings to the Balearic islands. A train station is also located here which serves the entire Costa Blanca and beyond. Benidorm is approx 45 mins drive away where numerous theme parks can be found to amuse both the young and old alike. Gandia, Javea, and Moria are also within driving distance.
