Lake Farm is a unique and spacious newly-built farm house, with all modern amenities - perfect for family holidays. This 5 bedroom bespoke house is set beside a beautiful 300m2 swimming lake and has far reaching countryside and sea views.
This 2.5 hectare eco-farm has been created by the resident owners, combining a permaculture garden, orchard and small poultry farm along with solar generated energy for a sustainable lifestyle.
Lake Farm is on the site of a traditional windmill, which has been renovated into one of the bedrooms. Exterior stairs curve up and around the windmill and lead to a spacious roof terrace commanding far reaching views across the Algarvean coast. There is a choice of outdoor seating areas…. wooden decking surrounding the swimming lake, a south-facing terrace with a pergola and dining area for 10 people. This terrace leads from the kitchen and living area and opens out to a sand pit and swing area for both children and adults! Enjoy making your own pizzas and bread in the traditional outdoor wood oven.
Beyond the orchard and carob trees, in a secluded area with private access, live the friendly young family who tend to the farm, garden and ducks. Further away from the houses, living in their own compounds, are chickens, goats and dogs.
The natural surrounding area is rocky and herbaceous, abundant with wild thyme, rosemary, cork oak, carob trees, rock rose and at spring time, wild irises and gladioli.
Swimming in the lake is a wonderful experience for all ages, with a shallow area for younger children to wade and play, supervised. The lake gently deepens to 2m with a wooden pontoon for diving or sunbathing, at the far end. This chemical-free alternative swimming pool is a haven for nature lovers and a constant delight to behold. Regardless of the season, you can relax just observing the wildlife visiting the lake and listening to the sound of the cascading water.
Lake Farm has been finished to a very high standard throughout and sleeps up to 10 people in 5 bedrooms. Each room is connected to a central sound system from the living room. There is a TV airing national stations and a DVD player.
The windmill has been lovingly restored into a small sunny bedroom reached by a winding staircase. All the living space is on one level, and easily accessible. Leading from the domed entrance hall is an ensuite bedroom that overlooks the lake. At the end of the hallway are 3 bedrooms, one of which is ensuite, and a bathroom, each overlooking the Algarvean hinterland. All the bedrooms have air conditioning, except the tower room. There is an extra charge of 100 euro per week for the use of the air conditioning.
The well equipped kitchen with granite worktops opens out to a dining area with a large mahogany table seating 10 people. The light and spacious living room has its own cloakroom and from the 'music nook' at the base of windmill, leads up to the windmill bedroom.
There is a laundry room downstairs, in the basement.
Eight sun loungers can be used on the lake deck and on the other terraces around the house and garden. There are sun umbrellas, tables and chairs available.
The lake measures 300m2 in total, with around half the area planted for the natural water cleansing process. The swimming area has a shallow entrance which gradually leads to a deep end of 2m. The lake has a smooth lining interior, beneath the water rocks divide the planted area from the central swimming area. At the far end there is a small waterfall that circulates the water and a wooden pontoon with steps leading into the deepest part of the lake. The lake is cleaned by the resident owners approximately every fortnight.
The nearest village of Pechão, 2km away, provides for basic needs, with shops, cafes, a bank and restaurants. The historic small town of Estoi with its roman ruins is 3km away and the coastal town of Olhão, which has all amenities, is 5km away.
The unique chain of beach islands of Armona, Culatra and Farol are just a ferry ride away from Olhão and by car you can reach Fuzeta and Faro beaches in just 15 minutes.
There are excellent golf courses within 20 to 30 minutes drive from the accommodation. The closest are west of Faro, in Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura.
A car is recommended, especially in the heat of summer…and for reaching all the beautiful and interesting places further afield. Car rental, taxi transfers and bicycle hire can be organized with local reputable firms in advance or by calling the local representative.

The main indusry of this bustling town, 15km from Faro and 20km from Tavira, is the catching and processing of fish.
Beside the river in the centre of Olhão are two large indoor markets with a delightful array of fresh produce, especially fish brought in from the port next door.
The warren of narrow streets and flat roofs lend a North African feel to the old town and the landscape.
Olhão harbor is protected by two islands with superb Atlantic facing beaches 'Ilha da Culatra' and 'Ilha da Armona', both reached by charming ferry rides from the dock near the market place.
The islands are between 10 and 20 minutes boat ride away from the mainland and house a tiny community of residents but mostly summer huts and holiday homes.There is a very popular seafood festival during august with live music and hundreds of different ways to eat shell fish!
