The Algarve region

Olhão has the largest fish and fruit market of the Algarve, impressive and worth a visit!

Moncarapacho Market every 1st Sundaymorning. Market selling fresh vegetables, fruit, clothing, textiles, shoes and household items.

Quelfes:Market held every 4th and 5th Sunday each month, selling a variety of goods. Opposite the school EB1 in Quelfes. 08:00 to 17:00.

There are many other Algarve markets to visit. The most common Algarve market is the daily fresh fruit and fish markets, most towns and villages in the Algarve have one, and are generally located in the centre. The best fish you will find early in the mornings!

Then we have the gipsy markets, auctions and the flea markets. The monthly gipsy markets also have food and beverage, meaning coffee, beer and grilled chicken! Many locals of the area dress up for this monthly event! Shop till you drop and find the best bargains at one of the markets of the Algarve.est climate of Europe.

Serra means strong undergrowth and plants that love the mediterranean climate. Oak forests and meadows also form part of the landscape of the Serra. This part of the Algarve is wonderful for walking and hiking, preferably not in the summer.

A nature reserve since 1987, located between Faro and Olhão, extends about 50km to the very east in Manta Rota.

Olhão is only 15 km from Faro airport.

Within a 50 km stretch from Faro via Olhão to Manta Rota, you are entering the world famous and attractive nature reserve "Ria Formosa".

Olhão's architecture features the famous Cubic white Algarvian houses, with their sunroofs, a style that is descended from the Arabs and is a symbol of Olhão along with the enormous high chimneys with the storks nesting on the top. If you walk through the streets of this town, you will feel the spirit of hard working men and fishing life here. It has a wonderful fish market and opposite is the vegetable and fruit market, open from Monday to Saturday. Around the market there are some cafés to take a break in, international press, bakeries, everything you wish. The adjoining "Avenida 5 de Outubro" is the main street for restaurants and bars, but do venture into the charming old part of the city, there is lots to be discovered...

Near the market you can take the ferry (schedule) boat or a "Ria Taxi" to the romantic offshore islands of "Armona", "Culatra" or "Farol".
