Yurt | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
Moonbeam is on the very edge of Dartmoor National Park, overlooking the town of Okehampton set high on its own wooden balcony in a large sheltered woodland garden: a gorgeous romantic yurt for two. You can enjoy the private use of a cedar wood hot tub and the studio/potting shed which offers a full Kitchen and shower room facilities. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered to make this Yurt extremely comfortable and fit into its landscape whilst embracing the unique Dartmoor climate.
Surrounding the tranquil privacy of the garden, there are a huge amount of things to do: Only three minutes walk away is Adventure Okehampton with twenty or so fantastic different activities including horse riding, canoeing, mountain biking, river gorging, caving and river rafting. Moonbeam is just five minute's walk to the most northerly point of Dartmoor National Park and the garden is adjacent to the old tram way one of the most popular walks from Okehampton which takes you through local fields, meadows and woodland, then along the river on to the moor. Next door is the old railway station with steam trains and bike hire at the start of the Granite The railway station itself offers steam train trips and has some of the best homemade cooking in the area from full Monty breakfasts to lovely afternoon Devon cream teas. So you can divide your valuable time between action packed adventure at the youth hostel; followed by a cream tea at the station then back to Moonbeam for a glass of wine and some bird watching and animal spotting before the sun goes down and long relaxed lazy days on the balcony in the hot tub.
Okehampton town centre has plenty to offer with its farmer's market, three super markets including Waitrose, a lovely cinema, art gallery, auction rooms and plenty of small independent shops including health food shops, butchers, farm shops and great clothes shops. There are some lovely places to eat including outside street cafes and pubs.
As Okehampton is right in the heart of Devon, you can reach both the north and south costs and their very different coastlines in under an hour! You can be in Exeter in thirty minutes, Cornwall in twenty and numerous National Trust properties all around. The Eden project is only a pleasant hour's journey away across Bodmin moor… all in all there really is a great deal to do so don't be surprised if you want to return time and time again!
Moonbeam offers all the romance of camping with all the comforts of a luxury hotel – this is glamping (or glamorous camping) at its very finest. It has been lovingly designed by a local craftsman: she's made from lovely local oak and ash, lashed with quality natural bindings, has a hand made solid oak door and a beautiful cartwheel design roof light above allowing you to lie in bed and gaze at the stars. The outer walls are constructed of thick, Devon made, weather proof cotton canvas; all furnishings have been carefully selected for quality and design and the well insulated solid wood floor is fully carpeted and strewn with cosy rugs and reindeer skins from Lapland. A truly snug and superb little get away.
