The Sardinia region
Sardinia, often referred to as the jewel in the Med is an island steeped in history, from its ancient Nurahge settlements to its sunken spanish galleons, and with breathtaking mountains and valleys, stunning coastline with fabulous beaches and some of the clearest blue waters anywhere to be found,Sardinia has something to offer for everyone.hot summer months and mild winters, but most parts are still unspoilt and free from mass tourism.
Ogliastra is the southeastern sector of Nuro province and Marina de Tertenia is a beautiful coastal area relatively undiscovered by tourists, with stunning mountain and coastal views and turquoise seas that surround the white sandy beaches of Foxi manna and Melisenda. There is a wide range of activities available including: tennis,go-karting,horse riding/treking,fishing,snorkeling,cycling and beautiful mountain hikes.
The village of Tertenia is situated around 10km away from the Marina of Tertenia. Here you will find a wide range of shops, supermarkets and bars, a bank, post office, a doctors surgery for tourists, the village church, a gelateria, the cheese factory, where you can purchase the local cheeses direct, and a bus route linking to all the other towns, villages and cities in the Ogliastra region .In the month of August, the locals organise a fiesta, to demonstrate how they lived and worked more than 100 years ago. There is a chance to try local dishes, cheeses and wines. This event is very popular with the tourists, and the locals.

"Disappointing in many ways"
We stayed at Villa Julia with my husbands family - 8 of us. The nicest thing about the location is the view. However, we encountered many disappointments during our week, beginning upon our arrival la… More
I am dissapointed that you have chosen to review Villa Julia in the way that you have and I will address your comments honestly. You were advised by email that we provide a basic food parcel for all guests on arrival and as you were due to arrive late I asked you to call Mauro the caretaker to ask him to shop for other things that you would need. This is not normal practice but he would have been happy to do so. There was toilet paper in some of the five bathrooms. As to toiletries and the other things mentioned, Villa Julia is self catering and not a hotel. All the things that we do provide are listed on our advertisement. There was an unfortunate problem with one of our two boilers which was sorted out very quickly and at no time was there no hot water to at least one of the bathrooms. Your comments on barking dogs waking you all up all night is grossley exaggerated and if in some part true could have been avoided had you complied with our terms and conditions regarding keeping windows shut when using the air conditioning. No mention was made to the caretaker regarding the damaged sunloungers and eight new ones were purchased as soon as it was made known by the following guests. There are four restaurants within a short drive and a number of things to do without being too touristy as advertised. I am sorry that I did not arrange for a courtesy bottle of olive oil and as for the bees I am not in charge of mother nature. To conclude I know that it is impossible to please everyone completely but I am confident that Mauro who is employed as caretaker not manager did over and above what he should to make your stay enjoyable. I take heart in the many wonderful emails from very satisfied guests over the past two years of letting. John.

"Perfect For Familes!"
I stayed here for a week with my Wife, 2 young children (2 and 7), and the in laws. I generally do not write reviews unless i feel strongly about something. This i feel strongly about. It was without doubt our most memorable family holiday to date, and a large part of this was due to the villa itself. I cannot stress enough how this property is so suited to families like us. The location on a mountainside overlooking the sea is quite simply a spectacle. The property itself sits on what looked to be about an acre plot, with a lovely good sized pool for both adults and kids. The perimeter is fenced and completely secure for kids. Even the gate is lockable. The layout of the outside area is superb, with a huge canopy over the front door for shade at all times of the day while you still have a full view of your kids in the pool! Internally the rooms are all large, the kitchen is well equipped with 2 giant fridges and every utensil we could imagine. There was a huge utility room too. A Big lounge and dining room area, which you will certainly not require if you go in August! We've never spend so much time outside! All bedrooms are lockable, so you don't have to worry about your little ones wandering into the pool after bed. And the upper bedrooms have absolutely enourmous balconies like I have never seen before in my life. Watching the sunrise over the sea from our balcony at 6.30am was breathtaking. The caretaker next door was excellent, and super helpful. The area is unspoilt, with several lovely beaches, a handful of restaurants and shops. The whole package was just A1. What a holiday! If you are looking to take your kids somewhere i don't think you can do much better.
Thank you for your very informative review together with your lovely emails that were very much appreciated. many thanks, John.

"Wonderful villa and region"
Villa Julia is the right place to spend a wonderful holiday in Sardegna. The view from the villa of the mountains and the sea are incredible. We loved to be at the pool, to sit on the veranda or having our diner outside under the stars. Tertenia is a nice little town, where you can enjoy real “Italianita”. The villages nestled in the mountains are well worth a visit and the beaches in the area are just beautiful – uncrowded, clean and perfect for swimming.
We would also like to mention Mauro, who lives next door and is the caretaker for the villa. He is a really nice person and very helpful.
We hope that one day we will be back in Sardegna – and in Villa Julia!
Thank you for reviewing Villa Julia and the area in a such a lovely way.It takes me back to when I first visited ten years ago and decided to build there and wake to that wonderful view. Many thanks, John.
