Cottage / 3 bedrooms / sleeps 15
Modern winterised cottages located in a tranquil secluded village, with a beautiful child friendly beach, offering wood-heated outside sauna and hot-tub “bathing barrel” right by the water's edge (available for hire). The cottages can sleep up to 28 people in total (there are 4 of them of various sizes that are close to each other) and are ideal for couples, families or groups; whether you wish a peaceful, relaxing holiday or one packed full of activity – canoeing or rafting on the lake, fishing, ski-ing, forest walking, fungus and berry picking, swimming, snowmobile rides, dog sledging, ice hockey, elk parks, archery – the list is endless.
2 of the cottages are spacious and designed for all year round occupancy - they sleep 15 in total. They have everything you might expect offering open plan kitchen and dining room combination with a stove/oven, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dining table, etc. Living room consist of cable TV, DVD, cornersofa and sofa table with a wonderful traditional log fire in one of the cottages. Bathroom is modern with all the facilities required including a washing machine in one of the cottages. A wonderful barbeque hut with real reindeer skins is available in the smaller of the cottages. The third cottage is a small old traditional Swedish farm house from the 19th century. The 4th is a two-floored house with two living rooms (one with a bar) and a huge indoor veranda.
In the summer the south facing sun areas that looks onto a orchard, meadow and village green are ideal for barbeque, sunbathing, dining al fresco, or simply sipping a glass of wine and enjoying the tranquil surroundings. Should the sun get too strong, simply pop down to the beach and cool off with a dip in the lake, which is very child friendly with a shallow sandy section for young children. Or take the canoe or boat out on the lake.
In the winter there is so much to do because of the close proximity to many different activities.
In the autumn you can go with guides for elk hunting, berry and fungus picking or why not try a bear safari.
In the spring the spring feelings are stronger due to the closeness to nature.
The owners can assist with organising activities, which means that you can feel safe that your holiday will be what you want it to be.
Should things get too quiet it is not far to big cities such as Gavle and Sandviken and only 2 hours to Stockholm.
Flexible arrival dates. Can also be rented 1-6 nights and several weeks/months in a row.

Outside, there is ample space to play. The large meadow is great for the odd game of football or superb playing area for kids whilst the adults watch.
The beach is a short walk away, and perfect for a refreshing swim during summer. The bottom of the lake bottom is sandy and slopes gently, offering a safe place for young children to play in the water. The Village Association maintains the beach to ensure it remains a child-friendly bathing area with a sandy beach, jetty, changing room and barbeque grill. Experience the natural beauty of Kolforsen; barbecue, fish, swim, sunbathe or just watch the kids play in the sand.
Many local residents own boats, rafts, canoes etc on the lake and you will never be short of advice on where or when to fish or an invitation to join them out on the water.
There is also a sauna and hot tub available on the beach. The sauna is a great place for warming up frozen fingers and toes in winter. It is a place for relaxation, tranquillity and deep thought. The 'hot tub', can be used every season. When it is freezing in the winter or on a delicious summer evening: it is always enjoyable! Enjoy with family or friends the hot tub: feel the warm water for your body; listen to the sound of the crackling wood in the stove; inhale air of free nature; talk with each other in the light of the moon or by romantic candlelight...
The hot tub is the best place to watch the sun setting beyond the trees, listening to the sounds of nature, and thinking that the world is an amazing and beautiful place, after all.
All around are pine forests and hills, rivers and lakes. Perfect for walking, riding, biking, swimming, rafting, canoeing/boating in summer, cross-country and downhill skiing in winter. Depending on the season, you can go wild berry or mushroom picking. Elks are a common site on the village road and deer are frequently seen around the cottage.
Bikes, a boat and a canoe are available for guest use. There is excellent fishing including pike, perch, etc.
In the winter exciting adventures such as dog sledging, snow mobile rides, ski-ing (both cross-country and downhill), sledging or more relaxing alternatives such as ice fishing are available.
The owners are British/ Swedish and are always happy to help you with suggestions to enrich your visit or to leave you in peace.
Whatever you choose to do whilst here, whether it is your first visit to Sweden or a returning one, we hope to make your stay with us special to you, and that you will return home with the happiest of memories.

The Midnight Sun Coast region
With over 200,000 lakes, 27 million hectares of forest, tens of thousands of islands, and 1700 national parks and nature reserves including Europe's largest protected area, Sweden is the perfect choice for wildlife and outdoor holidays.
What’s more, it is readily accessible from the UK and the rest of Europe, an easy country to travel in, thanks to the well-developed public transport infrastructure and the fact that almost everyone speaks excellent English, plus the country has a reputation for being clean, safe and politically stable. So put away your preconceptions about Sweden.
While much of Sweden does indeed provide fairytale winter conditions, summer in Sweden is also a glorious experience, with the country having a temperate climate in spite of its northerly location thanks to the Gulf Stream. There is usually less rain and more sunshine during summer than in Britain. Summer temperatures rise to the high twenties.
Many visitors to Sweden for the first time are astonished to discover such a vast majestic landscape with enormous expanses of pristine wilderness and breathtaking scenery, yet so close and accessible from the hustle and bustle of central Europe. Sweden is an easy country to travel in, the roads are an absolute delight, sometimes you can literally see for miles and there is very little traffic in the north of the country. Sweden enjoys one of the highest standards of living in the world and a quality of life to go with it.
Eating out is generally of a high standard and do not expect to pay over the odds. Indeed, it is a gross misconception that Sweden is an expensive country to visit –this belief originated in the 80’s and they have sadly been unable to shrug it off.
It was voted “Favourite European Country" in the British newspapers Guardian, Observer & Guardian Unlimited Travel awards 2006. The County of Gävleborg has a wide variety of sights, attractions, and recreational activities such as skiing, sailing, fishing, golf, music and theatre - and even moose hunting.
Gävle, the county seat, is a mere one-hour’s drive from Stockholm-Arlanda international airport. Here you will find a vibrant city life offering a large choice of shopping, restaurants, entertainment and culture. If you are looking for some retail therapy the Swedish are (as you would imagine) big on design and there are many excellent inexpensive shops to be found in nearby Valbo.
You can even take a day-trip to Stockholm. Stockholm is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is known as the Venice of the north, as it is situated on several islands and you have water everywhere. Just outside Stockholm you will also find the archipelago, consisting of over 20 000 islands! There are plenty of things to see and do in Stockholm. The best thing about Stockholm is that almost every thing in the city can be reached on foot; Djurgården, Gamla Stan (Old Town), Vasa Museum, shopping, theatres, boat excursions, galleries, royal castle and excellent restaurants.
Ockelbo is ideally placed as a base for trips to Gävle, Sandviken, Stockholm and other parts of central Sweden. This area is famous for being able to offer all of what Sweden can offer within 2 hours drive.
There are several interesting places to visit in Ockelbo. Day trips by car or bicycle. Bring your backpack and hike along any of our many hiking trails, or borrow them from the owner. In winter you can explore the many snowmobile trails perhaps for an ice fishing adventure.
Within 10-50 min drive you can reach:
Ockelbo’s renowned Wij Gardens, Wilderness Gallery, Elk Park, Bear Safari, Furuvik Amusement Park and Zoo, Adventure baths, Downhill skiing and snowboarding in Kungsberget, Illuminated cross-country ski tracks, Snowmobile routes, Forest and Nature, Fishing, Long-distance skating, Horses, Dog teams, Valbo shopping centre, Ironworks, Högbo Bruk, SAIK Bandy, Brynäs Ice hockey, Mackmyra Swedish Whisky, Boat trips, Horse-racing, Hiking on Gästrikeleden, Canoeing Sjöbacken to Testeboan, Swimming lakes, Arsunda Viking Museum, Art Exhibitions, Bird-watching, Railroad museum, 6 golf courses, 9-36 holes
To Gävle and Sandviken is less than 50km. From Stockholm, it takes approximately 2 hours on the E4.

"An action packed winter adventure or complete tranquility, whatever you want!"
We did loads of winter adventure things, which the whole family loved. It was a lot better than being in Lapland as things were not so big and commercial. Everything was sorted out for us in advance by the owners when we told them what we wanted to do, so no hassles. We went husky sledding and they were great with children and really friendly. Snowmobiling was equally fun and the children still talk about it. The accommodation was a beautiful cabin in a village and was really warm at all times despite the cold outside, a great plus was a barbecue hut outside which the children loved. The children are really determined that they want to go back again.

"The perfect family getaway"
We stayed in Kolforsen for two weeks in July 2010 and had the most fantastic holiday. The village is in a forest, by a lake, and is the ideal getaway from city life. My two kids (then aged 12 and 7) loved the freedom they had to play outdoors whenever it suited them.
The weather was very warm, so regular trips to the lake were a must! The beach is perfect, clean and very child friendly. A day rafting on the lake provided much laughter all round. Dinner at the beach using the bbq was fantastic.
Accomodation was ideal for us, clean and with all requirements met. Evening meals in the bbq hut were a wonderful experience.
Ocklebo itself is a nice small town, with the supermarket providing all you need for a self catering stay and is within easy driving distance.
We spent most of our holiday relaxing by the lake, as well as walking and cycling, and also visited Furuvik park which provides a great day out for adults and children alike.
The owners of the Kolforsen cottages are lovely people and nothing is too much trouble for them. They are great at giving advice on anything you need to know about, and the cottage contained lots of brochures for activities, and hints and tips to make your stay enjoyable.
To those who have never visited Sweden before I'd say go to Kolforsen, see the countryside, meet the Swedes and escape from every day life. A holiday here can be as relaxed or as active as you make it, but you will definitely benefit from life in the great outdoors.
We can't wait to go back!

"A fantastic place to stay and explore rural Sweden"
We stayed in the smaller cottage in Ockelbo in January and had a fantastic holiday. Agneta was unbelievably helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The house itself was very modern, clean and comfortable, and despite the fact it was very cold outside, we were nicely snug at all times.
We had organised through Agneta to go snowmobiling and then dog sledging but due to the thawing ice couldn't go snowmobiling. However, the dog sledging trip has to be one of the best experiences of our lives as is using the sauna and hot tub in such stunning surroundings.
We would very much like to go back and visit with friends during summer.

We had such a lovely time at the Red Cottage, it was everything that we wanted. The cottage is so quiet and cosy at winter, you can go outside and lay in the snow and look at up at the stars then dash back in to a lovely roaring fire to warm up. Agneta & Sharon can arrange anything you want and are available as much or as little as you want to provide info or organise adventures. we loved going up the big hill on the sledges, the skoodles, the walk to the lake in the freezing cold, the ice hockey ;-), the Christmas market and most of all how friendly everyone is in the village and also the supermarket and tourist information. We cant wait to go back! Thanks Sharon and Agneta! orfa-sida!!!!
