Would you like to get a taste for the real Florida, yet be able to travel to the theme parks and back in a day? This is what we are offering. The house is a typical Floridian home, with all the amenities you need to have a fabulous holiday.
It is in the heart of Ocala city, yet you can lie by the pool, gazing at the lake and forests, and not hear a sound.
There is a Club House a couple of minutes walk away, with a large pool, a gym, tennis courts, handball courts, shuffleboard, a library, pool tables, changing rooms with showers and saunas, etc. You can walk to coffee shops and restaurants, or everything is a short drive away including the local WalMart, Target and shopping mall.
If you enjoy golf or horse riding, then Ocala can offer all of that for you. Beautiful private and municipal golf courses are in the city itself, and some of the best respected horse ranches around. Ocala is known as the 'Horse Capital of the World' with over 1,200 horse farms, and over 900 thoroughbred farms of around 77,000 acres.
The famous Silver Springs theme park is very easy to reach, where you can take glass bottomed boat trips to see the turtles and fish; take a boat ride to watch the monkeys and hear about the history of the true Florida. Or go to the Wild Waters water park, next to Silver Springs, and have a day of slides and the wonderful wave pool.
You can go to Rainbow Springs just outside Ocala, and swim in the year-round 72 degree springs, or take a kayak to see the wildlife.
The famous beaches of Ormond and Daytona are just a drive away.
Yet you are still less than 1.5 hours drive to Orlando, if you want to go to the amazing theme parks and water parks.
The I75 interstate goes through Ocala - north takes you to Gainesville and Jacksonville; south to Orlando and Tampa.
The oldest town in the USA, St Augustines, is on the north east coast of Florida, which is an easy drive from Ocala and well worth a visit.

The Central Florida region
Ocala is full of Florida sunshine, but has proper seasons, so the summers are very hot, but not too humid, and then it cools off for a beautiful autumn, winter and spring.
Ocala is a working city, but feels small and friendly. The down town area is relatively old, with lots of character. It is an area of the city where you can park the car and wander round the shops and restaurants. There is a lovely night life there as well, with open air concerts and events in the town square.
There are a number of public gardens in town for lovely, peaceful walks and picnics.
Gainesville is 40 minutes away, housing Florida University, and all of the sporting events involved. The Butterfly Rainforest is also worth a visit.
Tampa is 1.5 hours south west, and has not only the beautiful Clearwater beaches, but shopping malls, sporting venues and of course, Busch Gardens the amazing theme park!
Mount Dora is a gorgeous old town a 45 minute drive away. It is full of character, and lovely to wander around the old shops and restaurants.
Silver Springs has many open air concerts throughout the year, so keeping an eye on their website is worthwhile. It also has a zoo and petting zoo.
Ocala is an hours drive from both the Atlantic and Gulf coast, for the fabulous beaches.
There are local papers and magazines, letting you know everything that is going on in Ocala. I pick mine up on my morning stroll to Panera, the best bakery and coffee shop I know!
You can walk to so many shops and restaurants on '200', the main strip through the city. However, most people would drive, certainly in the summer when walking can be very hot and tiring. Our favourite restaurants include Cracker Barrel for breakfast; Sonny's BBQ Pit for the best pulled pork and ribs I know; The Golden Corral for buffet dinners; Logans for a country and western style dinner; Ci Ci's for buffet pizza and pasta......I could go on with so many more! You are spoilt for choice with eating out, and it is incredibly reasonable.
The shopping mall is at the bottom of 19th Street, round the corner from the house, with Macy's and Sears.
If you have young children, then Chucky Cheeses is a brilliant play zone for them to work off their energy. There is a cinema and bowling alley around the corner.
