The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast region
Welcome to the Silver Coast of Portugal, a largely unknown, stunning and unspoilt coastline.
Discover fabulous beaches famed for their silver sand, natural assets, hospitable people, exquisite local cuisine & wine, fishing and farming villages in open countryside set along the majestic Atlantic Ocean.
The Silver Coast region boasts a quite extraordinary concentration of history, fascinating towns, museums. This is the real Portugal. Mild and temperate climate with long summers... perfect to relax all year round.
Obidos area
Foz do Arelho village and beach resort is located at the mouth of the Obidos Lagoon, at a short distance from the medieval white walled township of Obidos and the larger spa town of Caldas da Rainha.
Travelling north along the rugged coastal road you will find the resort of São Martinho do Porto nestling in a narrow, sheltered bay. Twelve kilometres further north is the picturesque fishing town of Nazaré. To the south of Foz do Arelho is the busy peninsula fishing town of Peniche dominated by a 16th century castle. From here it is possible to visit the Berlengas islands which are ten kilometres off shore and have been declared a National Bird Sanctuary.
Foz do Arelho village centre is at 1 km away from Casa do Lago, with a number of superb food restaurants, bars, mini markets, bank, pharmacy, post office, etc.
Sailing club and aquatic sports are at 1 km. 5 mins by car there's a vast surfers beach paradise, but with a large area not facing the Atlantic, thus, suitable for children.
Within 10 mins driving is the important spa city of Caldas da Rainha, with daily fresh products markets, restaurants, bars, vast varied shopping, museums and all modern facilities and amenities. 30 minutes' drive away is the number one golf course at Praia del Rey. Golden Eagle and other excellent golf courses are within the same distance. Lisbon is 1 hour driving and deserve one day visit.
The amazing Oriental Garden, Europe's largest, is 25 minutes' drive away. Peniche, the traditional fishing village with its superb beaches and restaurants, is 30 mins away by car. Within the same distance you will find historic Alcobaça, Batalha, Santarém and the picturesque and traditional beach of Nazaré. Sintra also deserves a day's visit.
The whole region is full of festivals, like the chocolate festival and medieval fair at Obidos, gastronomic festival in Santarém, etc.
How to get there
Leave Lisbon airport following A8 motorway indications. After driving more or less 80 kms exit on "Foz do Arelho" way out and follow indications to Foz do Arelho.

The villa is a cinema star dream place.
HappyUKFamily UK Stunning !!! Date of Stay: August 2009 We stayed in Casa do Lago for a week in August 09. The villa was easily big enough for our family of 4 adults (2 parents & 2 grandparents) and 5 children, and if we'd kept the baby in our room could have accommodated the other set of grandparents too. The villa was simply stunning and exceeded even our high expectations having viewed the website.
It has extraordinary views over the lagoon and out to the ocean. The infinity pool is fabulous and the gardens look great but better still include a children's play area, hammocks, outdoor gym, and crazy golf. This was paradise for the kids (3yrs to 14 yrs) who also loved all the toys and games in the villa: bikes, table tennis, table football, frisbees, inflatables, body boards, bikes (helmets even provided), trikes etc... For the adults there with at least 9 sun loungers by the pool, a wine fridge, sun shades on windows that opened and shut with the sun and bikes and gym equipment for the more adventurous.
We used the outdoor bbq and the lady who looks after the house for the owners was able to arrange for people to cook for us one evening without a problem. The villa was cleaned and linen changed mid week, and the pool regularly cleaned. All the bedrooms were big, en-suite, with floor to ceiling glass door/windows onto the patios or balconies.
Furnishings and equipment in the villa are all as we'd have at home, not the usual 'rental' standard. Touches such as all switches being labelled and a pc provided with broadband made the stay even easier. The beach in Foz was busy, but a 25 min drive around to the other side of the lagoon and leads to acres of almost empty golden sand, with the added pleasure of looking across at your own villa. Very happy to recommend!
Family from Canada Our family's best holiday stay The property sits on a hill, overlooking the beautiful Atlantic ocean. We still talk about the beautiful views, especially the sunsets overlooking the ocean, by the infinite pool. Everything in the property is modern and outstanding. The restaurants in town offer great meals reasonably priced. Our family enjoyed some of the area trips to the castle of Obidos, the city of Caldas da Rainha with its market, and the beaches of Sao Martinho and Nazare. This property and location is by far better than any of the properties we have stayed at in the south of Portugal, and the Caribbean. The kids keep asking "When are we going back dad?"
Family from France Paradise on Earth... marc999 Nice, France Date of Stay: October 2008 Casa do Lago superated in luxury every places where we have been before! It's just fabulous!!! We already knew the Silver Coast region, but everytime we rediscover it, we found it more and more interesting. About the Owners we kept the best image and opinion. Children loved the villa and of course, we are planning to stay there more times. Recommended for: Age 55+, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway, Families with Young Children, Families with Teenagers, People with Disabilities
