The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast/Central Portugal region

Situated along the atlantic seaboard coast of Portugal, this is a beautiful, un-spoilt part of Portugal. Long, quiet, beaches, great golf and surfing. Perfect for families or those in search of a quieter, more relaxing break. The nearby beach town of Baleal is also really popular with surfers and there are plenty of beach-side cafes to choose from. The weather is typically in the late 20s/ early 30s in the summer so not too hot. Winter is usually in the mid teens with good sunshine.

The resort offers golf and tennis with lessons available in both and a good practice area for golf. There is a lovely club-house with terrace overlooking the course out to sea. The Marriott Hotel has restaurants and bars with outdoor lounge areas on the terrace. It also has a spa. There are activities for younger children in the summer.

There is a great farmers market in nearby Caldas da Rainha which is an old spa town with some nice shops, restaurants and an old park with playground off the central square. Obidos is a lovely old walled town.

There is a lovely vineyard nearby where you can taste and buy locally produced wines and take the train around the Buddha Garden, see www.bacalhoa.com.

Lisbon, 1 hour away, is a great day trip as are Estoril and Cascais, sea-side towns just outside Lisbon. Ericeira is another nice trip, about half-way down the coast towards Lisbon.

We have cards for local restaurants in the apartment.

"Great base for exploring central portugal, lisbon and porto"

Very well maintained appartment with great facilities (beach, pools, tennis, golf etc) and an excellent location for exploring nearby markets, medieval Obidos, Lisbon and Porto. We had great weather (windy on the Atlantic coast) and enjoyed having all the pools and beaches to ourselves during May half-term.

"Idyllic getaway. will be back!"

Firstly, the resort is so close to Lisbon airport, that the transfer took no time at all, which counts when you only have 1 week's holiday. The resort has been beautifully developed and maintained. The apartments isn't overlooked and there's a great feeling of privacy in the apartment. The apartment itself is fabulous. Amazing wrap around balcony - great for BBQ, evening drinks, sunbathing - very private. Really tastefully decorated (I've stolen ideas for my own apartment!) and so comfortable. Huge windows, so the apartment is bright, which is so important, but not always the case. The rooms are a very generous size and the apartment is equipped with everything you could possibly wish for. The sea view was a total surprise and is stunning. Came home completely relaxed and refreshed. Couldn't have asked for more.

"Lovely apartment with sea view, north of Lisbon"

We spent a fantastic two weeks at this apartment last September. The modern apartment is bright, very spacious and so clean that it feels like new. I spent many an hour relaxing with my husband on the spacious balcony, reading and taking in the magnificent ocean view, while the kids splashed about in the lovely pool on the grounds. The pool is set within private gardens, just a few steps down from the apartment, so is very safe. It was great to have the beautiful beach so near and we used it daily for jogging, swimming and sun bathing.

The apartment was so nice and kitchen so well equipped, we had most of our meals there. It felt like a home from home. I discovered a couple of food markets in picturesque old towns nearby which we enjoyed visiting in the mornings to stock up with fresh local produce. We always dropped into one of the local bakeries while out to sample their 'pata de natas' (lovely little custard tarts) which are in themselves reason enough for a visit to the region.

We had some of our evening meals at beach restaurants. There's nothing more relaxing than enjoying a glass of chilled Alvarinho and a simply barbequed fish while watching the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean.

There are a number of surf schools at nearby beaches and I would highly recommend doing a day course. We didn't use the golf course on the grounds of the apartment complex but if it's golf you're into, you'll be very happy.

We also did a couple of day trips into Lisbon which was well worth the effort. The kids loved the trams and I loved the shopping! Most sights are within the central neighbourhoods of Baixa (the old downtown area), the Barrio Alto (the "high quarter") and the Alfama (the rabbit warren-like old district). The colorful Ribeira Market also has a fascinating fish hall. For lunch we went to RAMIRO on Av Almirante Reis. Atmospheric and great value, this place is the real thing. Heaven for seafood lovers and we saw no other tourists there. More central is RESTO on Rua Costa do Castelo. It's in the Chapito area, near the Castel St Jorge. The kids were intrigued by the clown school downstairs.

I would recommend hiring a car as there is so much to see and do in the region. Great holiday. Hope to return next year.

"Amazing Views, Beautiful Apartment"

We stayed here last August and had a wonderful time. The views are amazing - the balcony is massive ( and secure) and we spent plenty of lazy summer nights dining there watching the sunset. The apartment is really spacious and perfect size for what we needed ( 2 adults, 3 kids) . The bedrooms and bathrooms are all fitted to a really high standard and all of the couches, beds etc are all again of a high standard. The development itself is also well situated close to the village and nearby restaurants. We'll be back!

"Perfect family holiday"

We spent a glorious 10 days here. The apartment is large and beautifully appointed. We had everything we could wish for, dvds, bbq, books, completely self contained. The area was completely un spoiled, gorgeous friendly restaurants, especially the bakery in the village. We had surfing lessons for 5 days my boys ages 7,11,13 just loved it. The pool beside the aparment was super and very quiet. I would recommend that you hire a car for your trip as there is much to explore!
