The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast region
All year mild climate, and not unbearably hot in the summer. Beautiful rolling countryside, unspoilt by tourism, wonderful beaches that are never crowded. Peniche is a quaint fishing village, and offers a wide range of fish restaurants around the harbour. The historics towns of Alcobaça, Batalha, Mafra are well worth visiting as well São Martinho do Porto with it magnificent bay.
Obidos area
Óbidos is considered to be one of the jewels of Portugal national heritage. It's outstanding architectural beauty is reflected as much in the winding narrow streets, and elegant whitewashed buildings and balconies decorated with flowers as in the ancient churches and the magnificent Moorish castle whose high protective walls encircle the town. The wonderful Óbidos lagoon stretching in from the atlantic and supporting a great variety of flora and fauna.The coast is unspoilt and truly spectacular with clean white sand as far as the eye can see.The dune golf course of Praia Del Rey was considered the best in Portugal by Golf World Magazine.
How to get there
Fly to Lisbon Airport and travel north in about 50 minutes. The journey is simple on the new A8 motorway. Lisbon Airport has all the normal car hire companies.
