Stuckgowan House
About the home
Stuckgowan House is a Georgian Grade A listed building which has undergone an extensive restoration programme and now provides luxurious and spacious accommodation for up to 21 guests.
The accommodation offers 1 twin bedded en-suite bedroom and 1 four poster en-suite Bedroom, both located on the ground floor. There is a double bedroom, a triple bedroom (1 double and 1 single bed), a double with 8ft round bed, 2 doubles both with children's day beds (these are less than 5ft long so they really are just for children). There are 2 house shower rooms and a house bathroom with teardrop bath and shower. There is also a little tea and coffee station with fridge so you don't need to go to the kitchen for your morning cuppa.
Also on the ground floor you will find the study / library, with open fire as well as card table. sitting room and dining room both with open fireplaces and all with views over the loch. There is a large and very well equipped kitchen and pantry area with seating for 14 - 18 guests.
The lower ground floor or the entertainment zone as it is known is where you will find the cinema room which has a proper 126 inch cinema screen with surround sound system, extensive video library, Wii and XBox. Games room and bar with a pool table, darts board, log burning stove and bar. There is also a children's play room with table and chairs, sink, fridge and lots of games.
The house has a state of the art music system, you simply download the music of your choice from the website and you can play this in any of the ground floor rooms or lower ground floor rooms and also in the 7 seater hot tub which also has mood lighting. The hot tub has been positioned at the front of the house to take full advantage of the glorious view over the Loch.
The grounds are extensive and home to many rare trees not normally found in Scotland, this is why each bedroom has been named after a tree that you will find somewhere on the estate. There is a patio area with table and chairs and hot tub. The entrance also has an electric gate. The house is set in woodland and there are several streams so please note that children will need supervision.
The house is within easy access of Glasgow airport and there are trains from the airport which run to Balloch Station, approximately 16 miles away. There is also a train station in Tarbet, 2 miles north of the house, which has trains from Glasgow central station traveling north, through Tarbet and up to Fort William.

The sheer variety of interesting locations in the Highlands make touring around worthwhile - while the views and vistas on the way are a further bonus. Some attractions reflect the wealth of the area's heritage, from prehistoric cairns to stately homes and castles.
Others are specific natural features, impressive on their own account - for example, the Corrieshalloch Gorge near Ullapool or the Quirang on Skye. Then there are the wildlife attractions, which range from TV close-ups of nesting eagles to wildlife parks and rare breed farms. Whatever your preferences, variety is guaranteed.
The Oban area
Oban is just over 3 hours by train from Glasgow and approx 2.5 hours drive from Glasgow. It is an extremely popular destination as it is a gateway to the Isle of Mull.
Oban is justifiably known as the Gateway to the Isles. The town's south pier is the embarkation point for car ferries to Mull, Coll, Tiree, Barra, South Uist, Colonsay, Lismore and Islay. From these islands you can travel further afield to Iona, Staffa and to many of the smaller less well known isles.
And it doesn't stop there. A short distance from the south pier along the Gallanach Road is the slipway for the Kerrera ferry, and a pleasant drive south allows you to take your car, or bike, over the Atlantic by bridge to the Island of Seil.

.This is a great house, high on a hill overlooking Oban. The town has terrific restaurants - from the little seafood shack on the dock to Ee'usk for excellent food and service. The house has panoramic views looking out over Mull. Lots to do and see in the area (and the house is well-supplied w/ iniformation about the area). Highly recommend. |
