Home description
Lunga is a fine old Scottish country house (originally a 16th century Tower House), castellated, turreted, set on green lawns amidst tangled woodland. It looks out upon the sea: the waters of the Firth of Lorne and the Sound of Jura are just five hundred metres away.
There are 4 self catering flats and B&B rooms within the house, 3 self catering cottages on the estate and a large self catering cottage in the near by village of Ardfern.
The house, with its four thousand acre estate, stands upon the west coast of the Craignish Peninsula. This is a ten mile promontory stretching out into the islands of the Inner Hebrides from the coastal road where Mid-Argyll meets Lorne.
The country here is some of the most beautiful in Scotland, and some of its least discovered. The shoreline is rugged, craggy, indented, but not without its gentle coves and beaches – as well as many islands where seals bask and sea birds nest, and where a careful observer may see both eagles and otters.
Above the shoreline the land is lush and undulating, with many remaining fragments of the Caledonian Forest giving shelter amidst oaks and pines to a great diversity of animals and wild flowers.

The Highlands region
Argyll & Bute Region is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas on the west coast of Scotland. The local area offers activities to suit many tastes.
Those keen to explore its fascinating history will find an embarrassment of riches, as the peninsula and its vicinity are crammed with a prodigious mass of standing stones, cup and ring marks, Celtic wells (including Lunga’s own, blessed by St Fillan and thus magically able to withstand the severest of droughts), Viking burials and hill forts, ruined castles, Stone Age rock carvings, and abandoned clachan of the clan homelands to mention a few.
Places of Interest Oban - called the gateway to the Islands, one can take the ferry to Mull, Iona, Staffa and many more. Take a tour of Oban Whiskey Distillery, eat in one of the many restaurants and cafes.
Easdale Island - has a historic slate village and boattrips with Seafari.
Seil Island - cross over the smallest bridge over the Atlantic to Seil Island, visit the museum and craft shop. Loch Awe - ruined castles and good fishing
Inverary - Duke of Argyll's Caslte, Jail House, Museums and Adventure park as well as restaurants and pubs.
Oban / Craobh Haven area

There is a village shop, a Kirk, a school and a pub/hotel, The Galley of Lorne, a café The Crafty Kitchen. Craignish boat club offers children the chance to learn sailing or canoeing, Weekly classes are usually held on Monday nights. Go through the village along the single-track road to Craignish point you pass Kilmharee, a small ruined medieval chapel with its graves of chieftains and crusading knights and carved stones, beyond this across the bay Craignish castleThe road ends about a mile or so from Craignish point looking out towards the Corryvreckan Whirlpool, the 2nd largest in the northern hemisphere.
Kilmartin Glen, 16 kilometres, has a multitude of historic sites to explore, standing stones march across the glen, the Dalriadic Kingdom’s capital was here, carved into rock is the stone footprint used in their coronations, a chain bronze and early iron age forts. They welcome beginners, provide B.H.S approved instruction, and organise regular rides by the hour or half day. The stables have a, all weather, manège and a park which is frequently used for jumping or dressage, as well as a cross-country course. Many people, however, see riding simply as an enjoyable and natural way of exploring the beautiful countryside, with pathways winding around the garden.
Beyond the stables, 2 bays north is the village of Craobh Haven. The marina was created by linking three islands to the shore with great rock causeways to make a safe haven for over 200 yachts and fishing boats. It has a grocery shop, a craft and coffee shop and pub, The Lord of The Isles open all a day providing bar meals up to 9 pm. Boat trips and yacht charter can be arranged at the marina.
