Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Clan MacKinnon cottage is in a beautiful rural location, however it is also just 5 miles from the town of Oban and all its amenities. Clan Cottages have been awarded a 4 star Visit Scotland Quality Assurance award and were regional finalists in 2012 Visit Scotland Scottish Thistle Awards. Clan Cottages have also gained a Gold Green Tourism Award.
Our Clan MacKinnon cottage is one of only two cottages which has its own front and back door. The back door leads out from the kitchen onto a lovely patio overlooking Loch Nell and the surrounding fields and hills. There is a lovely double ensuite bedroom with walk in shower and his and hers sinks. The main bathroom has a spa jacuzzi bath and overbath shower. The other two bedrooms are twin rooms which have zip and link beds which can be linked together to make a kingsize bed if requested.
We accept a max of 2 dogs in this cottage and dogs are charged £5 each per night.
Our cottages are on a single track road, just under a mile from the main road into Oban which takes about 6 minutes in the car.
The area around the cottages is perfect for walking and cycling. The single track road which starts right at the entrance to our cottages runs through Glen Lonan to Taynuilt. It is a very quiet and picturesque route and you will pass a herd of pedigree Highland cattle which graze on the road verges.
Going in the other direction through the Muasdale glen is also good for cycling though it is slightly more challenging with more hills. There are a number of off road forestry tracks for cycling in the area, one of which is only half a mile from our cottages.
Just across the road from our cottages in the field opposite is the Serpents Mound which has a chambered cairn at its head. If you visit the website www.megalithic.co.uk and type in Serpent Mound - Loch Nell you will be able to read all about it. There are quite a lot of archaeological features in the area including the iron age crannog which is in Loch Nell just off the shores of the cottages.
There is fishing available in Loch Nell and the River Nell for brown trout, sea trout and salmon.

The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region
Argyll is both accessible and remote. Stretching from the outer limits of Glasgow to Ardnamurchan, the most westerly point in the UK, it is a region of stunning natural beauty, with an island-dotted coastline and picturesque towns.
With its pretty harbour, prominent landmarks such as the pink granite cathedral, McCaigs Tower and Dunollie Castle, and proximity to the Argyll islands, Oban – the "Seafood Capital of Scotland" and "Gateway to the Isles"– is a popular holiday town.
Standing close to its shore is Dunollie Castle home to the MacDougalls with its "1745" house which opened its doors to the public in 2012.
Dunstaffnage castle, at Dunbeg, 2 miles north of Oban home to the Campbells is open all year round.,
It has many visitor attractions including Oban Distillery, the Oban War and Peace museum. Atlantis swimming pool and leisure complex and numerous seafari trips.
Oban is the ideal port from wich to visit the islands and ferries leave daily to visit the isles of Mull, Staffa, Iona, Coll, Tiree and Colonsay.
The views over Oban Bay are simply stunning.
