About the home

Perfect for a family holiday, activity group or pet owners, the two bedroom lodges at Cologin are comfortable and spacious with all that you require for a self catering holiday. With The Barn country Inn at Cologin on site there is always somewhere for big groups to socialise together - but the privacy of your own lodge when you want your bed. Sky TV, Wi-fi, space and storage, adjacent parking - good quality fixtures and fittings without any of the frills of 5 star luxury. Laundrette on site, playpark, fishing loch and country pub - plus Oban is less than 3 miles away. Waymarked forest trails, lovely views, peace and tranquility.

Open plan lounge with a sofa bed, Sky TV, Wi-fi, log (effect) stove and coffee table lead to a fully fitted dining kitchen. The bathroom with bath and shower over and two spacious separate bedrooms are off a separate hallway (with stable doors to the outside) and provide a comfortable lodge for up to 6 people. Parking is adjacent for up to 2 cars. Access to all facilities at Cologin including free fishing on our trout loch in the hills.

We have 15 different two bedroom lodges at Cologin. You can book an individual property or a group of adjacent lodges. We also offer one bedroom chalets, private cottages and a traditional farmhouse. For large group bookings we can provide a Hog Roast machine and of course we can also cater for large groups in the Barn Bar - our on site country pub and restaurant.

Further details

A £100 deposit on booking and full payment 6 weeks prior to arrival. All non family groups (or same sex groups) are liable for a £50 housekeeping deposit. Pets are charged at £20 per week, £10 part week. The lodges are all electric and the meter is read on arrival and departure and charged at 10pence per unit used. Bed linen is provided and the beds are made up for your arrival - you can hire towels @ £2.50 per set, per week if required.

The Central Scotland / Strathclyde / Argyll and Bute region

Oban in the West Highlands of Scotland has been known for years as the 'Gateway to the Isles'. It certainly boasts a busy harbour with ferries serving the Inner and Outer Hebridean islands and the town is famous too for its malt whisky distillery which sits beneath another famous landmark - McCaig's Tower (modelled on the Collisseum in Rome) - worth the steep climb to enjoy the fantastic west coast sunsets from its stone arched windows. The seas off Oban provide world class sailing, kayaking and scuba diving and there are plenty of marine trips and activities for visitors. Although part of the Highlands, Oban is close enough to the central belt to be easily accessible and its reputation as one of the most popular visitor destinations in Scotland was first gained in the days of Queen Victoria! Today, it is a vibrant seaside town boasting fantastic restaurants (often specialising in seafood and shellfish), stunning scenery and friendly locals.

The Oban / Argyll area

If you have kids a trip to the Sealife Centre at nearby Barcaldine is a great day out. Children also like getting on the water and Calmac offer a variety of day cruises from their ferry hub in Oban. There are also marine wildlife trips to see dolphins, basking sharks and whales and you can fish anywhere on the seashore (no permit necessary) and catch something for your tea. The rivers are teaming with salmon and trout and there is plenty of wildlife on shore to observe - from red deer to pinemartens. McCaig's Tower and Pulpit Hill in Oban offer spectacular views out over Oban Bay and beyond to the island of Kerrera, Mull and Iona. A trip to any of these islands is a must on any holiday. Iona is the 'cradle of Christianity' and the abbey is a magical place to visit. Staffa inspired Mendellsohn's great Hebridean Overture and artists across the centuries have drawn inspiration from the stunning scenery that is all around.

Oban is unique in the Highlands as it is relatively easy to reach by public transport. The railway stations has a direct service to Glasgow (along the picturesque West Highland Line) all year and a summer service to Edinburgh. By road both Glasgow and Edinburgh are less than 3 hours drive with stunning scenery along the route which takes in Loch Lomond. You can also fly up from Glasgow by seaplane in 20 minutes or use the local Oban Airport. Good bus and coach links exist to the capital and to most key towns in the central belt. There is also easy access for Fort William and (again in the summer only) connections onward to Inverness. Car hire is easy and budget airllines operate to Prestwick and Glasgow International.

“A great place to stay” About 12 chalets on a mature site, all well spaced so not on top of each other, and all with a parking space adjacent. Our's appeared to have been recently refurbished to a high standard and was very comfortable for a fortnight stay. The Barn Restaurant serves a wide choice of really good food (can recommend the Mussels!) and is a popular, friendly place - the live music from local muscians on Sunday PM's is particularly good. Just 3miles from centre of Oban (free parking near Tesco's) which has excellent ferry services to nearby islands - we can recommend the day trip to Iona, book-able at the terminal. A good centre for touring around, but be prepared to drive long distances because Scotland is a big place. The local scenery is spendid and the site itself nestles in its own pretty little glen. All in all, a very good place to stay.

“Fantastic” This was our 6th time at cologin and I only wish I had written a review sooner,what can I say?I love the place,it's so peaceful,we stayed in chalet 18 this time,it was superb,everything you need for a weekend stay or a full week is there,and there's an onsite pub that serves food,and it's really good food,and that's coming from a fussy city chef,I could not recommend the place more,if you want away from the city for a few days or a week it's so quiet and relaxing,you just get left alone to do whatever you want,go for long country walks,go to the pub,sit at the table outside your chalet or just sit and watch tv,or go fishing,,and it's just 5mins from Oban,I can't wait to go back.thanks
