Home description
Magarita villa is a ideal family holiday home situated a few minutes walk from Nungwe beach, on the North coast of Zanzibar. Surrounded by tropical gardens in peaceful surroundings for those wishing to laze around in the sun and close enough to the local entertainment and facilities that Nungwe has to offer.
The house has a large living room, dining area and a kitchen and a veranda looking over the gardens. Two large bedrooms with traditional Zanzibari beds made from coconut wood and full en-suite facilities. The house is well equipped with all you need for a fabulous holiday and helpful, friendly staff are on site when needed.
Stone Town is a fascinating place to wander around and is only an hours drive away- taxis/local buses arranged on request. Other must sees include Spice tours, Jozani National Park, dolphin watching and the butterfly sanctuary as well as scuba diving, snorkelling or fishing- these activities can also be arranged through our site manager.

The Zanzibar region
The lure of the 'spice islands' is legendary. From exotic Stone Town with its labyrinth of narrow streets, to palm fringed beaches and pristine coral reefs, Zanzibar is a complete change of pace from the mainland. Temperatures average a sunny 30 degrees all year round with cool sea breezes. There are two rainy seasons, one in April/May and the other in November- the rest of the year is warm and sunny.
The Zanzibari waters offer some excellent diving and snorkelling, with dive sites for all levels of ability. The island also offers many places to visit including historical sites, spice tours and boat trips to see the turtles.
The local language is Swahili but most people speak English, Italian and French.There are also plenty of supermarkets and ATMs in Stone Town.
Nungwe area
Nungwe is a large village at the northern most tip of Zanzibar and an important dhow building centre. Nungwe beach has recently been voted the 5th best beach in the world (Guardian) and it is easy to see why with crystal clear blue waters and powdery white sand. The beach is ideal for children and perfect for swimming or crab watching! All along the coastline there is numerous bars and restaurants serving all day long. A short walk towards the lighthouse is the Mnarani Aquarium which houses a variety of turtles which you are able to handle, even a snake and a lizard!
The people of Nungwe are very friendly and welcoming and do appreciate modest dress - not just a bikini- when walking away from the beaches into the village as it is a Muslim island after all! There are several internet cafes, international calling points and a foreign money exchanger although it is often cheaper to withdraw money whilst in Stone town from an ATM.
How to get there
Direct flights from London are available with BA, Kenya Airways which fly to Dar es Salaam or Nairobi. Charter flights are then available to book to get across to Zanzibar- approx $50 per head. There is also a fast boat from the mainland to the island which takes 2 hours and costs $20 each- but then you would also need to get a taxi to the ferry port. From the airport in Stone Town (Zbr) taxi transfers can be arranged through ourselves when we know your flight details- transit time to Nungwe takes about 1 hour and costs approx $30 for the whole minibus. Car hire is also available- make sure you bring your international driving license with you- daily hire is about $30- quite handy for exploring the island which is well signposted and safe to drive around.
