This is a wonderful house for a relaxed family holiday for those that perhaps find other parts of Spain a little too commercialised. The pool at Hoyo 14 has lifeguards and they are extremely vigilant. The baby pool is perfect for the little ones, and the Padel tennis courts are very handy and great fun.
Food lovers will love this part of Spain with a huge selection of seafood being available along with the world renowned Iberico Ham. For those looking for something more simple, pizzas are plentiful also!
If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing break, then this is the holiday for you. The townhouse is very comfortable and perfect for groups or families. There are many restaurants within walking distance and a fully equipped kitchen should you fancy a night in. The stunning sunsets can be viewed from both verandas and the beautiful smell of pine spreads throughout the whole area.
Nuevo Portil really has something for everyone and for those looking for something more lively than the beach or the pool there is plenty to chose from! For quad biking and hiking information, please get in touch. The water park in Cartaya is a brilliant day out and has chillout areas for those who are not fans of slides and swimming! Close by in Cartaya is the Go Karting, another great day out and have a look for yourself. Horse riding is also very popular and can be easily arranged in resort. Sailing is very popular as are most waters sports and there are many opportunities to try this out.
For those with children, the Theme Park in Seville is a brilliant day out although I would not recommend visiting in peak peak season as Seville gets very hot. The park is called Isla Magica and the website is pretty good.
Seville, Jerez and Cadiz are all well worth visiting. Such an amazing part of Spain!

There is a table outside for those that prefer to eat al fresco within the private garden area. This is lovely at night with all the summer sounds and the amazing night time temperature.
Please note that the pool opens from 15 May through to 15 September. There is a pool at the AC Hotel which they are more than happy for you to use if you are eating or drinking there.
For families, to the rear of Hoya 14 you will find mini golf, mini pedal carting, bouncy castle, football pitch for the kids and a bar/restaurant for the rest of the family.
Nuevo Portil is quiet for teenagers but there are clubs in Punta Umbria that will keep them partying long into the night.
The Andalucia region
Costa de la Luz is often called the Spanish Algarve and is just over the border from Portugal. It is unlike other, more commercialised parts of Spain and has several amazing golf courses. The beaches are second to none and the food absolutely amazing. Rates at the local resort are as low as 25 Euros and the El Rompido course, which is five minutes away in a car, are also very competitive. Both courses have stunning clubhouses and excellent food. There are several other courses in the area and all cheaper than other parts of Spain and the Algarve.
For families, a trip to Isla Magica in Seville is a fantastic day out. Our teenagers love a visit here and there is plenty for all of the family to do. Would suggest that may be very warm in peak season, however there are covered areas for eating and shows, so there is escape should the mid-day sun get too much.
Ten minutes in the car or bus, you will find the water park and the Go Karting. These are both very popular with both visitors and locals alike. Look out for vouchers at Carrefour for both. A great day out for the kids.
For those of you interested in history, the beach here is where the soldier from Operation Mincemeat. Operation Mincemeat was a successful British deception plan during World War II. As part of the widespread deception plan Operation Barclay to cover the intended invasion of Italy from North Africa, Mincemeat helped to convince the German high command that the Allies planned to invade Greece and Sardinia in 1943 instead of Sicily, the actual objective. This was accomplished by persuading the Germans that they had, by accident, intercepted "top secret" documents giving details of Allied war plans. The documents were attached to a corpse deliberately left to wash up on a beach in Punta Umbría in Spain. The story was used as the plot in Duff Cooper's 1950 novel Operation Heartbreak, but revealed as a true story in the 1953 book The Man Who Never Was. The soldier is buried in Huelva at Nuestra Senora de la Solidad and the grave number is1866.
El Rocio is also well worth a visit. The Hermitage of El Rocío (Spanish: Ermita del Rocío or Ermita de El Rocío) is a hermitage at El Rocío in the countryside of Almonte, Province of Huelva, Andalusia, Spain. The hermitage is home to the Virgin of El Rocío (Spanish: Virgen del Rocío), a small, much-venerated carved wood statue, and is the destination of an annual procession/pilgrimage on the second day of the Pentecost, known as the Romería de El Rocío, connected to the veneration of the Virgin of El Rocío recent years the Romería has brought together roughly a million pilgrims each year.
Although there has been a hermitage on this site for centuries, the present hermitage building was designed by architects Antonio Delgado y Roig and Alberto Balbontín de Orta, designed in 1961 and built in stages over the next two decades. There is a huge festival here every May with millions travelling from all over Spain. The area is also hugely popular with bird watchers.
Seville is only an hour away and is a beautiful city and well worth a visit, although it can be extremely warm in the height of summer.
Punta Umbria is very close by and has a great array of shops, bars and restaurants. It is the most lively of towns in the area. The main part of Cartaya is worth a visit too, and is a very typical, sleepy Spanish town.
Have a coffee amongst the locals and soak up the very Spanish atmosphere.

Hi there and thanks for the really lovely review. So glad you had a good holiday and we hope to see you back one day soon. Great to hear that you found the information I gave you useful and delighted that Lola provided a great service. I totally agree re the BBQ situation! Whilst we would love to have one, it is against the rules of the Community. Thanks again. Catherine Fisher

Thanks so much for the great review. We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay and we would welcome you back any time.
Unfortunately the issue with the TV has affected all of the British owners in Hoya 14. This is ongoing and we are sure this will be resolved before next summer. In the meantime, we now have Wifi which enables guests to download any other channels that they may want.
We are so glad that you enjoyed the beach as much as we do. It's just beautiful.

"Fantastic holiday home that we will be visiting again!"
I stayed at Casa de la Luz for a fortnight in july with my husband, two children (7&1) and my mum. We flew into Faro airport and it was only an hour to El Portil. This area is a true taste of Spain. It's not touristy at all which we loved.
The house, on arrival, was in perfect condition. It was very clean and tidy and straight away we were very impressed. It has 3 bedrooms, 3 toilets( 1 with shower, one with shower and bath) kitchen, living room/dining room, balconies and a terrace. We were delighted with the amount of space we had as we never felt on top of each other. They also provided us with a travel cot for my son. The kitchen has a washing machine so we came home with no washing! We ate out most nights but it was good to stay in some nights and cook in the kitchen. It's fully stocked with pots and pans and everything you need.
In the living room there were books and board games which we took advantage of. You can tell its someones holiday house as it has all the little bits and pieces you want in a home. It is like a home from home. The owners of the house have a hall cupboard with lots of beach goodies like umbrella, things to lie on, buckets and spades, lilos etc which you need as the beach doesn't have beds or umbrellas. The beach is gorgeous though.
We spent most of our days at the pool which was always manned by a lifeguard so we all felt very safe in the water. The pool is a 30 second walk from the front door. The complex itself is very peaceful and well maintained.
My husband played golf twice and raved about the course, he said it was immaculate and quiet so his game was never interrupted. He paid €42 for a round which included the hire of clubs
There are lots of little towns worth visiting with great places to eat, we went to El Portil, Nuevo Portil, Punto Umbria and El Rompido, all great wee towns with bustling atmospheres. The owners left lots of recommendations of places to eat and visit which was very useful. The food is amazing and very spanish, the Iberian pork and shellfish are a must! There is a fun train that goes round El Portil and Nuevo Portil and if you have kids you have to go on it!
There is an aqua park in Cartaya which is worth a visit. Another day trip we took was to Seville which was fantastic and only an hour away.
We had such a great holiday and we will definitely be returning. We loved the house and the area.
Thanks for the really great review! We are so glad that you enjoyed our house and the amazing area. Hope to welcome you again very soon. Catherine

This really ticked all the boxes for us- a family with small kids. Luxurious and comfortable enough to still feel like a holiday even on nights in! Very relaxing pool area with grass and trees around. Stunning beach just a short walk away. We were a bit lost when we arrived but once we got our bearings it was wonderful.
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed the house and Nuevo Portil!

"Fantastic accommodation in a great location"
Beautifully appointed house with loads of space. The swimming pool is less than a minute from the house and perfect to cool off from the blazing sunshine. The pool is enclosed by a grassy tree-lined area so it is very comfortable for sunbathing; equally there are plentry of trees and cover for those wishing to keep in the shade! The long sandy beach is a short walk away and there is a little cluster of very good restaurants about 5 mins away from the accommodation. The seafood in the tapas bar is great and the seafood restuarants in nearby El Rompido are a must. We found it good value to eat out - anything from 35 euros to 70 euros (including wine!) for four people eating 2 courses. If you like a good Rioja (we do) the supermarkets sell decent bottles for as little as 2.75 euros! Huelva is a short drive/bus journey away and visiting Seville is a must. We went by bus from Huelva as we couldn't face driving in the big city and visited the famous Gothic Cathedral which should be No.1 on your list. Overall I would say as near as you can get to a 10/10 (I never give anything that mark!) for a holiday.
Thanks for the great review and so glad you enjoyed your break! Catherine

"Fantastic location, great restaurants and stunning beach!"
If you are looking for a relaxing break in the real Spain, then this is the holiday for you. Catherine has thought of everything you might need for your break and the house is beautiful, and even better, less than ten minutes walk from one of the most stunning beaches we have ever seen.
The restaurants are excellent and a huge variety all within walking distance. Plenty more in El Rompido or Punta Umbria both of which are just a short drive away. Our best meal was in a beach front restaurant en-route to Punta Umbria. The fish was the best!
Our teenagers were never bored with the pool being a second from the house and the Padel tennis two minutes away. The beach is perfect for football and there are also football pitches to the rear of Hoya 14.
We had a brilliant time and will be back! Loved the house, a real home from home!
Thanks for the great review. So happy that you enjoyed this special part of Spain. Catherine
