The Costa de la Luz / Huelva Province region

The Atlantic coast of Andalucia stretches from the Portuguese border in the west to Tarifa in the south and includes the Doñana National Park and the estuary of the mighty Guadalquivir River. The beautiful region of Andalucia stretches all the way across southern Spain from the vast, sandy, unspoilt Atlantic beaches of the Costa de la Luz in the west to the barren mountains and deserts of Almeria in the east.

The Westernmost part of the Andalucían coast, the Costa de la Luz or the Coast of Light, borders with the Portuguese Algarve to the West. Although the coast is popular with visitors in the summer, development here is restricted and in no way compares to the urban sprawl of the Costa del Sol. Often dubbed the “Spanish Algarve”, the Costa de la Luz attracts large numbers of mostly Spanish holiday makers in the summer months.

Winding roads thread the coastal villages together and give you glimpses of miles of wide, open beaches. This part of Andalucia is unspoilt by mass tourism and is typically Spanish in its nature, with many holiday makers being spanish. Picturesque, with beautiful villages such as El Rompido, El Portil await you, with towns such as Punta Umbria & Cartaya a short ditance away. Cities such as Huelva being 15mins away, The beautiful historic old city of Seville an hour away.
Safe haven for cyclists with miles of cycle paths newly constructed through the pine forests, along the coastline with loads of stop off picnic areas.

This huge region is abundant with natural, scenic, cultural and historic wonders: fabulous ancient cities with magnificent palaces and castles, undiscovered remote mountain villages where time appears to have stood still, vast areas of national parks, magnificent mountain ranges and a coastline from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, much of which is still undeveloped and unspoilt.

The coastline is characterized by sandbars and marshy inlets making some ideal areas for sailing, boating and other water sports. Amongst the modern developments are the remnants of the old fishing communities and inland some charming market towns can be found.


Nuevo Portil area

Golf Nuevo Portil is located in an area with natural vegetation, mainly populated with pine trees bordering the coast.
This high quality golf resort is situated amongst some of the most beautiful countryside on the Spanish Algarve. This area, with its gentle slopes and lush green fairways provides the ideal environment for a round of golf. The 18-hole golf course is 5,841 metres long and has a par of 71

Some of the many attractions in this area along the coastal road are a large waterpark and a Go-cart track to keep the children amused.
A newly built children's park, with swings, slides, five aside football pitches etc has been built just a few hundred metres from the house.

The Costa de la Luz
Nuevo Portil is a newly created 18 hole golf course which borders a lagoon and a pine forest nature reserve. A wonderfully long quiet sandy beach is located just a few hundred metres away.

From sites of historical interest and protected nature reserves, cycle or walk through uninterrupted specially designed pathsways, beaches and pretty fishing villages, to pristine marinas and quality restaurants, the hardest part of your holiday will be choosing which to see or do first.

If you are in search of the "real" Spain you will find it here and discover that it reaches all the senses.

Taste the cured ham of Jabugo and the locally caught fish in El Rompido. Smell the pine trees that are so abundant and the orange groves that roll over the countryside of the region. See the vineyards of El Condado and watch the sunset from the virgin beaches at Punta Umbria. Hear the beat of the fiesta at El Rocío and the rhythm of the flamenco in Seville. You have arrived and it will touch your heart.

Cartaya
A lovely town situated at the top of the Río Piedras estuary, Cartaya is usually overlooked by visitors passing through on their way to or from the coast. The town has an immaculate main square with a fountain at the centre and a baroque style whitewashed town hall. There are plenty of amenities in this town of 15,000 people, including 3 cinema screens, 2 libraries and plenty of hotels and restaurants. Cartaya acts as a service centre for the towns on the coast to the south. Cartaya is located on the N431, 8km from the coast. The dual carriageway that runs to Portugal and Seville is a couple of kilometres away.

El Rompido
A charming, idealic and very pretty village located close to Neuvo Portil on the banks of the Río Piedras estuary, El Rompido is a lovely place to spend time. There are some great bars located on the jetties from which the many boats that ply the estuary can be seen. In the summer, a ferry service operates taking passengers to the sandbank opposite. There is a golf course at El Rompido.

The coastline from El Rompido to Punta Umbria, 15km to the east is a lovely stretch of beach although it has been developed with hotels and building backing the beach as far down as La Laguna del Portil, 8km from El Rompido. Further towards Punta Umbria, the coast is backed by pines.

Punta Umbria

Punta Umbria itself is a busy town of 12,000 inhabitants. Located at the mouth of the Odiel River, Punta Umbria is a smart, high rise resort which is one of the most popular on the Huelva coast. There is a district here called the Punta de los Ingleses where a number of half-timbered bungalows built by the British in the early 20th century still stand. Although Punta Umbria is only a couple of kilometres from the capital of Huelva, it is necessary to backtrack some 15km back over the salt marshes via a dual carriageway to reach Huelva. The Odiel Salt Marshes are now a nature reserve. Punta Umbria was originally a fishing village but it has been transformed by tourism and receives a large number of visitors each summer. There is a small port in the town with a maritime club where all kinds of water sports can be practised.


How to get there

This delightful unspoilt area has two main airports, The most popular is Faro in Portugal and then Seville in Spain, you can benefit from a choice of operators and flights to meet your needs.

Both airports have good motorway links to lead you not far from the house.

For those not wishing to drive we can arrange an airport pickup and return for 60 euros each way.

We will provide you with clear well written directions to guide you from your chosen airport to our home before you leave the UK.

Seville airport is approximately 1 to 1 and half hrs away from the house.

Seville airport, which is called San Pablo, is located just 4 kilometres or 2.5 miles northeast off the centre of Seville city. It is about 85 mins travel by car which is the best way to see the area.
Seville airport can be accessed internationally from most places including budget airlines for a cost effective choice.

Faro airport is approximately 1 to 1+1/2 hrs from house.

The bedrooms comprise of a large double room with en-suite bath and shower facilities, fitted wardrobes and sliding doors onto a large patio area which over looks the pool and across to green 4 of the golf course; the second bedroom comprises twin beds and fitted wardrobes, the third and largest of the bedrooms is a family room and contains two single beds plus a further double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers, double doors lead onto a large patio area which over looks the pool and across to green 4 of the golf course.

For families with babies and toddlers we have two cots/mattresses and young (1-3yrs) children's toys available.
Beach/pool towels are provided to save on luggage space.

Further details outdoors:
The green 4 townhouses form a u shape around the shared pool and garden area, our house sits on the horizontal part of the U hence, looks straight out onto pool and gardens and directly onto green/hole 4. Plus, each house has its own private garden area for sunbathing or children playing etc.
Extensive private gardens are enclosed for residents use: for sunbathing; playing games; accessed via gates.
A further small private garden with an enclosed fence and gate to keep young children safe is a feature of the property as are three large patio areas with garden furniture available.
A new park 150-200 mts from the house with young children's, teenagers 5 a side football pitches and adult facilities will be ready in 2008.
The swimming pool is shared with residents of this small group of townhouses. A life guard is present during pool opening times 1st June - end September. You can be confident that you can keep your children safe and they will no doubt meet up with others of their own age.
There is also a shared paddle tennis court to be used by guests.
The area boasts long and picturesque cycle trails through: woodland along coast line and through beautiful spanish towns two adult bicycles (male & female) are available for use at the property.

Further details

A 25% deposit will be required to secure your booking. The balance is due 8 weeks before departure. The amounts quoted apply for full weeks. Different rates for shorter or longer lets are available on request. £150 refundable security deposit is payable with the balance.

Flexible arrangements can be made for changeover in order for customers to secure flights. However, Saturday would be preferable, although by negotiation and subject to existing bookings it may be possible for other days.

A maid service will provide linen and towels that are changed mid stay for bookings of 10 - 13 nights and weekly for bookings of one week.
The swimming pool is suitable for young children, toddlers and babies only with your direct adult supervision. Cots and high chairs are available on request. Smoking is permitted outside only.
Pool opening dates & hours are subject to management commitee decisions.

Prices for long term lets of a month or more can be negotiated with the owner. Example costings for 6mth let :-
