About this location
The Pays de la Loire region
Known as the 'Valley of the Kings', the Loire Valley boasts some of the finest chateaux in France. Chateau de Montegeoffory, set back and accessible via a long drive is beautiful in its surroundings. This chateau remained in the same family and intact throughout the French revolution and still has many of the original furnishings. Chateau de Saumur towers over the town providing the perfect back drop, particularly when its illuminated at night. Chateau de Villandry has impressive gardens which you can visit without having to enter the chateau and can take you the best part of a day to find your way around. The list is endless!
Wine tasting is a must when in France and the Loire Valley is no better place. Visit the picturesque scenery of far reaching vineyards or take a tour in one of the many wine caves. Ackerman and Gratien Mayer are two of the well known wine makers in Saumur, however there are plenty of independents which have equaling quality.
There are many other things to do in the region including golf, fishing and sights such as the troglodyte caves. Cycling and walking are very popular with forests surrounding the area and lakes to swim in. The lakes at Hommes are very popular in summer and give the feel of being at the beach. Zoos and theme parks within an easy drive and suitable for kids of varying ages. Clear skies with no light pollution make it perfect for star gazing.
Parcay Les Pins is a small village and includes the surrounding hamets, which includes Les Taudonnieres and is only 3km away. Parcay Les Pins has a shop, bakery, pub/restaurant, post office and a hair dressers. Due to its European diversity, the village secured European funding in order to create its own museum dedicated to the sculptor, Jules Desbois and is the centre piece of the village and is well worth a visit.
