The Kwa Zulu Natal region
Nottingham Road is a village easily accessed from the N3 between Johannesburg and Durban, only 20 minutes from the foothills of the Drakensberg. The landscape is beautiful, with green rolling hills, dotted with fly-fishing dams. Nottingham Road is a favoured venue for wedding functions and is in the heart of the Midlands Meander Route, with its mix of arts and crafts, coffee shops and many restaurants.
Notts Cottage is ideal for week-end getaways or overnight stops on long journeys to the coast, and caters for holiday makers who wish to spend a few more days exploring this beautiful region of South Africa.
The Drakensberg Mountains is a world heritage wonderland site.
The awe-inspiring basalt cliffs, snowcapped in winter, tower over riverine bush, lush yellowwood forests and cascading waterfalls, and form a massive barrier separating KwaZulu-Natal from the Kingdom of Lesotho.
Combining sheer natural beauty with a wealth of biological diversity, this mountainous region has been preserved and venerated for eons since the San people or bushmen roamed these slopes. Thousands of paintings depicting their daily life can be found on the rock faces.
The fearless may choose to try sheer rock climbing, abseiling, white water rafting or taking a helicopter ride to view the Drakensberg mountains from above.
Hiking the slopes of the Drakensberg, you can watch out for 290 bird species, 48 species of mammals, or the rare varieties of plant life found in the park.
