Norwich area
The Cathedral and Castle dominate the skyline and its rumoured there is a church for every pub in Norwich...Both are close by. The medieval city fans out from the river with narrow streets and typical weavers cottages. The best example, Elm Hill with cafes and antique shops is a stones throw away. St Georges Square sits alongside the river opposite The Playhouse Theatre and bar and is a short cut into The Lanes, with narrow streets and meandering shops, bars and cafes. The forum, venue in the summer for street performers and cafes is reached through the Lanes, and is opposite one of Norwich's finest churches, St. Peter Mancroft.
The quiet location of the Old hall provides all the relaxation and comfort needed for short breaks and extended holidays, and everything Norwich is within walking distance. A must see is the Colemans of Norwich famous mustard shop and museum in the royal arcade, an art nouveau styled shopping mall built in 1899 .
For 6 days a week, over 900 years, there has been a market in Norwich and the old Norwich market is a vibrant covered market place selling fruit, vegetables, cheeses, organics as well as books and fabrics, all sorts of bargains.
Excellent restaurants, Theatre at The Theatre Royal and The Playhouse, museums, cinemas and The Lanes, Chapelfield and The Mall shopping. Norwich has a lot to see.
The Internationally renown Sainsbury Centre is a short hop by bus or taxi.
The swimming pool and fitness centres can be reached along the riverside walk which stretches to Carrow Road, home of Delia Smith's Norwich City Football Club where you can also sample excellent Sunday brunches!
The Norfolk coast only a short drive. Sandringham home of the Royal Family, Blakney, Holkham and Cley are all worth a visit. There are bird reserves a short drive away at Strumpshaw, Surlingham and Buckingham and Cantley marshes.
Whitlingham Broad and the Norfolk broads why not hire a day cruiser or go on an organized tour from Norwich, City Boats are a short walk away near Elm Hill, and take in the sites of this most famous of waterways.
