Norwich achieves an enviable balance as an enchanting cathedral city and a thriving modern metropolis. The city boasts some of the finest medieval architecture in Britain with its cathedral, castle and intricate network of winding streets. By contrast the city’s newest centrepiece, The Forum, represents contemporary architecture at its best.
There is a vibrant mix of theatres, cinemas, arts festivals, exhibitions, museums, numerous pubs, stylish café bars and a vast array of restaurants. The shopping is excellent and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly.
Explore Holkham Beach (pictured), which featured in the final scenes of Shakespeare in Love, then enjoy the view across the marshes from The White Horse Brancaster Staithe, voted one of the most romantic locations in the UK.
Take a stroll through the snowdrops at Bagthorpe Hall, near East Rudham. The garden is open in aid of the Norfolk National Gardens Scheme or join the special Valentine’s Day guided walk, at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden. There are more snowdrops at Raveningham Gardens near Loddon or Walsingham Abbey grounds

A great apartment in an excellent location, well worth the costs for a long weekend in Norwich, which is really nice to visit. A day on the broads is a must during your stay. |

This is a great location, only about 4 minutes walk from the cathedral and incredibly easy to get to all the city centre places, lovely restaurants. Hardly needed to use the car, although having a secure parking space was a great bonus. It was obviously a very new holiday let, as none of the information you'd expect in a holiday apartment was provided - no leaflets, maps or brochures of things to do in the area. It would have been nice to have information about local shops, including opening times, as well. We were expecting to find wi-fi in the apartment as advertised, but it's actually available from local pubs which reach the apartment, and you have to pay for it. The directions were also disappointing - despite asking twice we were just given a postcode - not everyone has sat-nav! The one way system is quite confusing, so we ended up driving in circles for a while before we found it. This could easily be rectified by providing a map of the location and written directions from all the main roads into the city, as we've received when staying in other places. The apartment looks lovely, but more thought could have been put into equipment and furnishings provided. The lighting is incredibly poor in both living room and bedroom - hopeless if you want to read a book or the newspaper. There is only one (tiny) bedside table, again, hopeless if you both wear glasses and need somewhere to put them down! And made it impossible to read in bed as there's no bedside light one side and nowhere to put a book. The kitchen was also poorly equipped, with not many mugs, bowls or plates, and the bowls seemed to be cast offs from somewhere else as they were all square and difficult to use! |
