The East Anglia region

North Norfolk is an ideal tourist destination. Whether you enjoy the lively atmosphere and entertainment offered by traditional seaside resorts and Norwich city or the tranquility of the small fishing villages, which spring to life at high tide, you can't help but be impressed by the beautiful coastline, most of which is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty.

As you travel along the coast the scenery changes from cliffs to natural harbours, winding creeks, marshes, and large sandy beaches backed by sand dunes.

The region is also well served for family holidays with plenty of activities geared to children, safe sandy beaches, activity parks, and adventure pursuits. There are traditional seaside resorts with piers, ice cream and fish and chips and low price children's meals.

The nature reserves which are dotted along the coastline are an ideal place for ornithologists to watch migratory birds pass through.

There are also plenty of attractions to visit including historic buildings, art and craft centres, animal parks, steam railways and windmills.

The regions towns and villages are ideal places to explore. Their brick and flint buildings host a variety of interesting shops and tea rooms, as well as pubs and restaurants, where you can sample the local seafood.

The Norfolk Broads cover an area of 180 square miles and consist of 3 main rivers plus their tributaries. With the status of a national park the simple pleasures of bird watching, fishing, fresh air, peace and quiet, friendly hostelries, and messing about in boats are a pleasant change to everyday life.

You can wander the streets and enjoy the architecture or dine at one of the variety of cafes and restaurants available.

"Bungalow with everything"

Booking was easy, we were visited during our stay, and received help quickly when light fuse tripped. The property was clean, tidy and well stocked with helpful items. Very handy for the town and its amenities, and for the local attractions

"Lovely bungalow wrong location for us ."

The Rye was a lovely comfortable place to stay had everything we could have wanted great places to visit from there but finding it was a real pain without the use of a sat nav. Ken the owner was very nice and spoke about things to see and do really helpful. We also had the "Boy racer" brigade speeding about on an evening which wasn't good screeching tyres etc when trying to sit out and relax in the garden as the weather was excellent so rather spoilt it . If placed in a different location i would go back as the bungalow is great .

Hello Lynne, thanks for visiting The Rye and for giving a review, however I think your comment about the car noise is misleading to readers of the review. The bungalow is in a quiet close and I doubt whether a vehicle could go over 10 mph let alone race, I can only assume that the noise that you heard was from the road which goes into the town and passes about 200 yards away from the back garden. All towns these days will have some noisy motorists and I would refer anyone reading this review to also read the other reviews. Regards Ken

"Yet another perfect stay at The Rye"

We've never booked a property for a third visit before, simply because our experience in the past has been that properties suffer from delapidation and poor maintenance over time. However, following a successful second visit in 2010 we all agreed to try The Rye for a third trip to Norfolk this year.
We certainly needn't have worried about a thing. From the moment we struggled to find an available week with Ken we knew that we would arrive in the same quality accommodation as we first visited in 2009. Everything was perfect, the accommodation was exactly as we remembered it; clean, tidy and well maintained. The gardens were immaculate. The only complaint I would have is that with such positive reviews it's going to be even harder to book next time!

"Excellent"

Good sized bungalow, very clean and lovely garden. Especially appreciated the little touches - tea & biscuits on arrival, bedding provided, free charcoal for the BBQ, pegs - all those silly little things you forget to bring with you.
Very well located for exploring the north and north east of Norfolk. It appears that all roads lead to North Walsham!!
Will definitely try and book again if we return to the area.

"A very well equipped bungalow"

The bungalow is in a good location for visiting nearby beaches and the broads.
The property itself is equipped very thoughtfully. As well as the usual you would expect there are extras such as a number of magazines, board games, local newspapers and everything you need for a bbq. There is also a utility which with three children was great for washing beach towels. North Walsham itself whilst picturesque hasnt got a huge amount to do, however within a 5 to 10 mile drive there are beaches and the broads and Norwich a little further. If you have got children and want an evenings entertainment there is a bowling alley nearby which was surprisingly really good value. The pub at the end of the road was a disappointment with poor service and overpriced food so I would go a little further out. All in all good value and very spacious with 3 good sized bedrooms and as mentioned lots of little extras that make it feel home from home.

Thanks for the good review Michele, hope to see you all again sometime. Surprised at your comments on the Bluebell Pub round the corner. Although I live in North Walsham I often go there for lunch or sit in the lovely gardens with a pint. I find the pub and garden very clean and tidy and always greeted warmly when I go in. It has a top hygene rating and the lunch time specials are only about £7 for two courses. Obviously it is only pub food so most of the food will come from a freezer. The reviews on tripadvisor for the pub are excellent. Opposite the pub is The Olive Tree restaurant which I believe is also reviewed on tripadvisor.

"Excellent base for exploring North Norfolk"

We stayed at The Rye with two young children (1 and 5) and, while we didn't have a great holiday (mainly due to weather), the property was hard to fault. North Walsham did not seem especially characterful but has all the necessary amenities (supermarket, bank, takeaways, indoor play area, etc) while being small enough to get round easily.

From North Walsham the beach is only 10 minutes away, but it never got congested like a seaside town would at the height of summer. Norwich, Great Yarmouth and the Broads are also within easy reach.

The Rye is a pleasant bungalow with double-glazing and modern facilities, as well as a large and well-tended garden. Everything worked and was in good condition; the owner clearly takes pride in the property. Only thing missing, in our view, was a dishwasher. We had problems connecting to the WiFi though I think that was mostly down to the age of our laptop - you might want to bring an Ethernet cable with you just in case, though. Also note that there is only one toilet and one (separate) bathroom.

For families with older children, who intend to spend several days at the more "in your face" attractions of the Great Yarmouth area, you would probably be better off staying somewhere further south. But for North Norfolk, The Rye is a good choice.
