The Island hosts the world famous Bird Reserve at Balranald which hosts a wide range of less common bird species and has a wildlife trail over surrounding machair lands to all vistors to see the birds in their natural habitat.
Places of interest include - Taigh Chearsabhagh in Lochmaddy a museum and arts centre with cafe. Nearby is an Outward bound centre offering variour outdoor activities.
On the road from Lochmaddy to Clachan you pass an ancient burial chamber - Barpa Langass and the nearby Pobull Fhinn Stone Circle - a rare example from the past.
Famed for some of the best trout and salmon fishing in Europe with productive lochs on grassy machairs to sea angling from a boat around the coast North Uist is simply a fisherman's paradise.
