The East Lothian region
Edinburgh and the Lothians combines the culture and bustle of the city of Edinburgh with the peace and tranquility of the countryside. North Berwick is a classic sea side town with a busy little harbour, fantastic range of shops and restaurants and two amazing sandy beaches. Yet, from the quaint railway station, the twice an hour train takes just 30 minutes to place the tourist in the centre of one of Europe's most vibrant capital cities.
From the atmospheric cobbled streets of the Old Town to the beautiful Georgian avenues of the New Town, Edinburgh is a city of contrasts blending shopping, historic attractions, gardens and plenty of restaurants and cafes where you can relax. By contrast, the Lothians offer historic properties and wonderful wildlife to world-class golf and exciting outdoor activities, there is so much to discover in the Lothians. Explore evocative ruins, spot distinctive species and play a round on an Open Championship course.
North Berwick is an ideal base to discover the historic towns of East Lothian such as Dunbar, the birthplace of John Muir, Haddington, a small market town. Take a trip to Athelstaneford where the original Scottish Saltire flag is said to have been first adopted. Alternatively visit the theatre in Edinburgh, or take advantage of the Fringe in Edinburgh or the alternative "Fringe by the sea" in North Berwick.
Admire the amazing architecture and grandeur of stately homes and castles such as Lennoxlove House and Dirleton Castle. A great way to explore East Lothian's magnificent historical attractions is by bike. Take your own or hire bikes once you arrive and follow extensive cycle routes through the area for an exhilarating tour. Or, for a more leisurely pace, follow the John Muir Way from Musselburgh to Dunbar to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
Have a wild day out with the whole family at the award-winning Scottish Seabird Centre where you can discover around 150,000 gannets nesting on the spectacular Bass Rock. Watch from the warmth of the centre's state-of-the-art Discovery Centre, observe live footage from cameras at the nesting areas, or take a thrilling boat ride out to the huge granite Bass Rock, described by Sir David Attenborough as 'one of the 12 Wildlife Wonders of the World'.
Spend a day at one of the beautiful beaches such as hidden gem Seacliff, pristine Yellowcraig and kite surfing paradise Gullane. Or enjoy a few rounds of golf on the region's fantastic collection of links courses that rank among the best in the world. Play on the famous Muirfield green where 15 Open Championships have been played and be sure to visit historic North Berwick Golf Club, established in 1832.

"Modern, comfy, clean"
Had a brilliant stay for two nights . Bed very comfortable. There is everything you need the only thing if I had to criticise was there was no iron but if I really needed one I'm sure I could have asked. Loved sitting outside in the rocking chairs in the evening when the sun was setting . Even had a heated bathroom floor , smart led tv and all mod cons . Best self catering accommodation we've stayed in Scotland !
Thank you for your glowing review of Wee Windy! We're glad you enjoyed your stay. You're right there is no iron because we don't want to clutter Wee Windy with an ironing board but from now on we'll make it clear to guests they just need to ask us! Thanks for your feedback Mike and Susan

"Beautifully designed and well equipped"
Stayed here for a week and loved it. I'm usually disappointed when booking holidays over the internet but Wee Windy surpassed my expectations. It's a lovely little place - very bright and airy - and kitted out really well. I was there on my own most of time but had my little niece and nephew to stay for one night and they really appreciated the games that were provided. I'd forgotten how addictive Ker Plunk was! All in all Wee Windy is a great find and I hope to go back there.
Hi Jo Thanks for the lovely review! We are delighted our photos etc give a good idea of the real Wee Windy. Hope to see you again. Mike and Susan

"Beautiful, bright cottage - immaculate and lovely owners"
A great cottage - beautiful design and would be fab for a couple. We went as small family so needed to double the living/kitchen space as a bedroom, but it is more catered to a couple. It is a gorgeous cottage and Susan was most helpful during our stay. It is not close to the beach but that is why it is affordable compared to places closer to the beach. We have already booked a return visit.
Hi Nikki Thank you for taking the trouble to write a review for Wee Windy . It's great to have such a positive feedback from our first customer! We look forward to seeing you again soon. Susan
